Sanctuary town illegals arested

Did I read the article correctly the emergency procedures kick only after we are allowing 4000 a day into the country? If Biden was serious why not kick in at above 0?

Without having any special information and only applying common sense, I would assume that emergency procedures are not necessary below the 4000 threshold because the regular staffing, funding, and facilities can handle 4000 or less.

Since we are talking, Patf, I’m curious why Trump successfully urged Republicans to kill this bipartisan bill if Trump is so concerned about immigration.

If both republicans and democrats agreed it was a step in the right direction, why did Trump prevent its passage? Do you know? Is there any common sense answer?

Which article said that? The bill does not “allow 4,000 a day into the country”.

“It’s not that the first 5,000 [migrants encountered at the border] are released, that’s ridiculous,” Lankford said on the Senate floor. “The first 5,000 we detain, we screen and then we deport. If we get above 5,000, we just detain and deport.”

This bill solidifies the catch and release program program of Biden / Harris. It would limit what a future President can do by executive order so it would be worse than doing nothing. I do agree Congress should limit immigration, but this bill was not doing that.

No, it doesn’t.

Fact-Checking Claims That Senate Bill Allows 5,000 Unauthorized Immigrants a Day - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

New immigration bill would not allow 5,000 illegal crossings per day, despite what Trump says (nbcnews.com)

The bill was killed because the leadership of the GOP put party over country.

That number also includes people who are currently incarcerated. Not sure it is helpful info at all.

The 13,000 number being promoted by the MAGA folks is extremely misleading. Anyone on ICE’s non-detained docket with a homicide conviction has likely been in the country for decades, served a full criminal sentence, and can’t be removed because they’re from a country which restricts US deportations. It is a long-standing issue that predates Biden.

It is helpful because it shows there are thousands of murder and rape victims who would not have endured these violent crimes if the borders were protected. Some may say that illegal aliens commit less crime than others, but that is no comfort to their victims. If they were not in the country there would be less victims.

When did those people come in and how? Did they fly in and overstay? Have they been in prison for 20 years?

Those numbers are unhelpful and are being misused with the sole purpose of fueling misplaced outrage, not to fuel serious policy discussion.

If you are easily outraged you are easily manipulated.

I am more shocked that you don’t have concerns about so many violent crime victims; crimes that should never have happen. If only we secured our boarders like other countries. Perhaps you are being manipulated.

While many of the 600000 criminals have come in over the last 20 years, possibly longer, the 28,000 murders and rapist have come in since 2021.

Wrong, they did not. That claim is from a MAGA Congressman and not supported by any evidence. From the original post on this topic.

Two law enforcement officials familiar with the data told NBC News many of the migrants on ICE’s nondetained docket, including serious criminals, crossed into the U.S. under previous administrations, including that of former President Donald Trump.

While 2021 time line can be questioned, the 13k murders/15k sex offender stat remains true.

It is complete nonsense.
Fact check: To attack Harris, Trump falsely describes new stats on immigrants and homicide | CNN Politics

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, said in a Saturday email: “The data in this letter is being misinterpreted. The data goes back decades; it includes individuals who entered the country over the past 40 years or more, the vast majority of whose custody determination was made long before this Administration. It also includes many who are under the jurisdiction or currently incarcerated by federal, state or local law enforcement partners.”

Regardless, still throwing out the baby with the bath water. 1 is already too many

I’m not sure you understand that saying. It’s an expression that says the entire project doesn’t need to be rejected or discontinued if part of it is good.

You’re suggesting throwing out all immigration despite the fact that the vast majority of immigrants are good. They are a necessary component of our economy and society. While you envision no harm from mass deportations and closed borders, you ignore the lawful immigrants, honest workers, and promising students who would be uprooted from our communities.

Your post makes no sense. How does lying about the data, while blocking funding for border security, address the issue?

Is the MAGA crowd pushing this nonsense to deflect from the fact that the number of criminals on the non-detained docket grew at twice the rate under Trump than under Biden?

the list grew about 10% between August 2016 and June 2021 — a roughly five-year period that included the four-year Trump administration — and then grew about another roughly 5% in the three-plus years under the Biden-Harris administration between June 2021 and July 2024.

This sort of post makes you just sound foolish. You ranted about some huge number problem with the Biden administration, and now, faced with the fact that the data you ranted about is false or misleading, it’s not about the numbers anymore because even 1 is too many. That’s the way a child argues.

If even 1 is too many, then it was too many under Pres Trump, and Pres Obama, and Pres Bush, and every other Presidency because we’ve never had zero. So if 1 is too many, then you don’t have a complaint about the Biden administration. You have a complaint about human nature and living in a free society where we’re not locked down inside a fortress.
