just join the Wehrmacht and you too can have a classic 1942 helmet
Second rider in line needs to size down on the suit. Wrinkles on the arms. Tsk tsk tsk. I also spot something stowed where the chest bottle would go for IM but banned for UCI.
Seeing this photo - since this helmet is so wide, I wonder if without the visor it is actually creating more drag rather than improving airflow
Just one personās opinion : there is tons, and I mean TONS of bullshit in this aero space, publishing resultsā¦BUT, when a guy like MTM steps in, says he was part of the process, he did the testing and gives his results, that should carry more weight than any marketing claim, aero eyeball or other reporting with a lot less credentials. Just my opinion as the president and founder of the MTM fan club.
I donāt think itās widely known on here who MTM is
I have most data with visor mounted as thatās how itās designed to be used. The data I have without visor says thatās itās a bit slower without it, but not too bad (i.e. itās not suddenly a super bad helmet). I know in at least one case with and without visor was actually the same, but itās obviously going to be dependent on rider/position/helmet angle.
Research isnāt a strength of ST sometimes lol
MTM (Martin) has been on ST as long as I remember. He is currently works for a world tour team (BV). He is a rider (or ex, not sure). He established the Danish hour record a few years ago. He worked hand in hand with Dan Bigham on the Danish team pursuit team. He is a no bullshit, no fluff guy.
Didnāt he live near that Danish airfield thatās rideable on bike thatās like a couple mile loop perfect for outdoor testing?
Either way I can afford one other TT helmet to test this year and the slowest gets sold.
Still have the Tempor and a TT5. Thinking this one OR the Ekoi. The Alien looks cool but cool aināt fast necessarily.
Lots of selling and swapping to be done. I despise the outdoors Skinsuit testing I need to do because once sweaty they are crap to get on easily.
I canāt remember which year, but in the last 5 years I recall sitting on the trainer watching the Worlds TT and they cut to Martin on course. Took me about 20 minutes to figure out why I knew who he was - then about a week later he posted on here wondering if anyone had photos of him from the TT.
Rudy North America website has them available to buy. Just purchased mine and with the USA Triathlon helmet discount it came to $374.
So has anyone seen the difference between the original bigger visor and the newer smaller on ?
Any pics to compare ? Thanks
Also has anyone gone from the wing to the new wing dream and can compare if itās any cooler
Iām guessing if āfeels betterā as itās moropen on the bottom , but does it have more a less air flow ?
Thinking kona here for heat
Thanks
When I asked, I was told only the newer shield is being sold in the U.S. so a comparison may be irrelevant. Have not used it yet (cold here in the N.E., but it sure āfeelsā a lot more open when trying it on. Still a while before Iām outside.
@B.McMaster
Iām in Oz and I think the Rudy man here only has the bigger visor
Hence why Iām trying to work out the difference and which āmayā suit best
Do we know how to ID the big vs small visor?
ironpo - got it - good luck.
NAzgul350r - other than asking when buying - my shield has no āmarkingsā that would / could identify which one.
When you sit the helmet on a flat surface, the old visor sits directly on the surface. The new one you can almost get a finger under.
Just received my Wing Dream here in the States. Itās currently 30 degrees so I canāt test it outside for a while. I put it on and itās definitely got a āStar Warsā vibe, but my girlfriend says it doesnāt look any weirder than any of my other aero helmets - LoL!
My one BIGGEST CONCERN though is the buckle mechanism. It is beyond weird and funky! Itās a long, flat, L-shaped clasp. Trying to buckle and un-buckle it, I had flashbacks to Macca in Kona transition that one time. My biggest fear with this helmet is that ALL aero gains will be f*cking lost in transition while trying to fasten the ridiculously over-engineered clasp.
The buckle is weird at first but takes no time to get used to and is so much better. Itās brilliant.
This is true, I found it funky at fitst but after practicing a little it is okay.
