Rudy Project WingDream Aero Test Results

Me too.

So any info re: old vs new visor? Retailer I spoke to said old one is likely significantly faster, new one slower. He said something about different standards for CE and whatever US / Canadian equivalent is so they had to change it for those markets. He also implied that European and pro team stock would remain the ā€˜old’ design.

Any of this true?

Mtm commented on this early on. He said he couldn’t find any aero difference between them

There’s no difference.

I’d seen this. But this retailer gave a different reason for the design change, and also said long version continued for pros / CE territories. It would make sense, given that pros appear to be using the old version and Australia (follows CE) still has stock of old too, whereas US gets new. Europe still seems to have nothing, but UK (follows CE) appears to have old too.

As the new Ekoi is beginning to be available in EU, but the rudy is not available yet, any opinion on the potential results ?

I know, it would be a wild guess without testing… But just as when I bought the giro aerohead 1, I guess I will have to use other’s opinion / trust testers general comments

Got mine last week, first ride was earlier this week. Initial thoughts:
The buckle is great. Easy to use, straps are plenty long for me
S/M fit me as well as any other medium.
Compared to my HJC Adwatt 1.5, this has slightly better visibility, slightly poorer ventilation.
The shield is very flimsy, not sure if this is a good or bad thing, TBD.
Will be aero testing on Friday with AeroSensor, will get baseline numbers with Adwatt then test the Wingdream and Met Drone. Historical number with my Adwatt was around .221 cdA, My old Aerohead was .227, on my Orbea Ordu OMX with Aerocoach Ascalon cockpit.

waiting for the test!

Received and tried mine too, same comments : the strap is amazing, visibility and comfort is awesome coming from a giro aerohead. ā€œFeelsā€ fast, but no data to back this up.

The magnets are extremely weak however. The visor went flying yesterday when drinking from the BTA, barely touched it. It never happened to me with the giro, in 5 years and thousands of Kms. By sheer luck no one rolled on it in the 50 rider group behind me, I’m considering gluing it for the next races…

For me, the Wing Dream was .006 CdA faster than the Wing in size L.

#edited because I can’t do math.

With the newer (North America) shorter visor, I presume?

That’s right.

*.006 ?

Yes, thank you, will correct. It was .210 vs .216

Is the 006 a lot.
Sorry I don’t do numbers ?

0.006 in itself tells you very little. Because 0.306 → 0.300 is an easy saving. While 0.206 → 0.200 is game changing.

In this case it’s substantial, roughly 0.3km/h at 200W or 0.4km/h at 250W.

How’d the testing go
Got any data yet ?
Thanks

Thanks for that
I’m in oz and just got the wing dream
Looks like we must have the new visor as if I sit helmet on table there about 15-20 mm between the visor and table
I actually asked Rudy oz about the different visors and he said he new noting about new and old visors

I unfortunately wasn’t able to get any testing in, ran late getting off of work. My friend was able to make 2 runs in it though, for him his cda was .202 in the wing dream, in his Large Met Drone his cda was .196, somewhat disappointing, but he has a very narrow position with somewhat narrow shoulders. I have significantly broader shoulders so I’m optimistic it will work better for me than him, but that’s all I’ve got for now. He didn’t make a run in the Adwatt 1.5 that day.
