Rudy Project WingDream Aero Test Results

Yes, I think the chin strap is at least 1 inch too short.

ā€œSo after 15+ years you are putting looks ahead of performance, or have you always approached racing that way?ā€

Thanks for your input.

He’s just a trolling dickhead. See every post he’s ever made in the LR.

Hardly, I was just amazed that someone would put ā€˜looks’ ahead of performance, if you take that as a troll then sheesh…all…bike and tri gear make you look rediculous…

But then I reconsidered and thought well plenty of people just want to finish and if they think they look cooler by sacrificing some speed then all the best to them.

Obviously I tried to delete it before SBR could get more upset but he chose to unhide it and quote it so mehh…

I’m amazed at how well this thing fits. I’m also convinced anything anyone says that’s negative about it (other than the dumb buckle, just use a Fidlock buckle Rudy!), is simply misinformation to maintain a competitive advantage against people using a different helmet.

I’ve never had helmet flow so perfectly into my back around my shoulders. Perfect fit in any position I put my head.

But ya, don’t buy it people. You want to keep looking cool. This is only for nerds and you are definitely too cool for this.

Awesome Helmet. I’m curious how much time I can save in a 70.3 race with this helmet vs my current Rudy Wing Helmet, assuming a 10W drag reduction. I am confused because reading the Rudy press release it says 10W drag reduction vs the Wing, @ 200W, will save ~72s over an ironman.
Wingdream: Official debut at the Giro d’Italia | Rudy Project
But on the normal wing helmet page, they show a 10.5W drag reduction vs a road helmet is equivalent to a 192s time reduction in an ironman, also assuming 200W rider.
Rudy Project | The Wing | Aerodynamic Cycling Helmet | Ultralight – Rudy Project North America
So my question is, how much time savings vs drag reduction (W) should I ballpark for things like this? assuming a 200W ride.

Shouldn’t the time saving be dependent on speed, not on watts?

The Rudy page shows it as 45kph @ .25 CDA

We are getting in a bunch in the next few weeks.

I believe watts will be the constant if testing

We hit low 50s today so I had to take the wingdream on its maiden voyage.

Initial impressions are I know I look goofy when not in aero but we race in skin tight onesies so looks aren’t high on my list if it works. The buckle is weird but with some practice I think I can master it.

Pros- I swear I can feel the air moving around my shoulders better. There’s so much less wind noise, even though it fits and feels more like a road helmet. It’s much easier to tell when you’re in the right position. The back sort of just fits between your shoulder blades. Peripheral vision is great.

Cons- it’s a bit harder to get your fingers in to adjust the tension on the fly. The noise you can hear, I struggled to tell where it’s coming from. Car behind or car coming? Couldn’t tell until I saw it. The vision… probably my biggest issue is the front brow protrudes out enough that it blocks my vision when I’m in my aero position. I have to lift my head ever so slightly up to see more than a few yards in front of me.

I’m super excited to use this helmet this season and I’m sure these differences with become normal with some practice and more use.

I actually saw one in action at Indian Wells 70.3 the other day. He had a Canyon Speedmax and the new Rudy helmet…he was hauling…his shoulders were almost hidden UNDER the helmet and yes, looked very aero.

I’ve got a size large that is too big for me. Willing to sell for what I paid ($325) + shipping. Black color.

Just adding my review after Taupo. Love the helmet. The fit looks way better than my Smith Jetstream TT and my Procen TT.

Not hot or heavy. The only complaint is I’m a small/md since the shell is the same size as the large it feels a little bouncy inside. Like the New Zealand roads were bouncing me all over the place and it seemed like I noticed the movement a lot more. But it might just these roads that practically rattled my bike to pieces…

So is it worth while waiting for the smaller visor?
I am a sml size also , and I’d rather have it easier to drink from a biddon than not

I believe I have the smaller visor. It was no problem drinking for me from my BTA profile designs straw and also when pulling a bottle of from the cage to drink was fine. I think that’s what’s shipping now. Mine just arrived last week.

Yup Jim said above is the smaller one
I raced daytona in it
I’m right on the edge between med/large.

58.x is my size. I had sized down in my pox, and always end races with a bit of a headache.

I sized up to the large and was totally happy.
Even when stuff went slightly wrong(i forgot to put baby shampoo on, to keep it from fogging), there was enough room to wipe the inside out, still attached

Now i just need a travel case.

You know helmets are big when the travel case is only taken as checked in luggage
