Just ranting…accidentally left my Roka jammers hanging on a hook in the locker room after a swim, realized my mistake 20 minutes later, already gone and none of the staff had collected them. Seriously, who nabs a used swimsuit for themselves?!? They’re fairly distinctive visually, so I’m kind of expecting an interesting conversation by the pool one of these days. Anyway, thanks for letting me rant…
That’s just sad. Whoever took it is probably not too bright. Bet they will show up at the same pool wearing your jammers.
Back in college someone stole about half my underwear from the drier in the common W/D room. Cheap old whities underwear. There were only 10 or so apartments on the floor sharing the W/D. Not like the list of suspects was long.
Also had a snorkel taken from an aquatic center locker room.
I had something similar happen but they turned up in the lost and found eventually. I like to think that someone grabbed the by accident and turned them in later. They were very common though (dark blue, plain). They did have my initials in them, but if you’re in a hurry no one looks at that.

Dark blue with a bright green waistband stripe, hard to miss and I’ve literally never seen another else wearing that design. And they were only hanging there unattended for 20 minutes… 
I had a pair stolen once a couple years ago. I couldn’t fathom why a person would want to wear another persons swimsuit. Reminds of that Seinfeld episode:

An older Indian guy stole my sweaty underwear in a Bally’s gym locker room bench 10 years ago. Not the same but my point is weird shit is out there.

My personal experience is that the thief doesn’t have long to examine stuff (& aren’t terribly bright) so they just nick random things. They then get somewhere else and have a look. I’ve had the police find things dumped on the floor in a rail station (that I didn’t go to) before. If bins weren’t banned in train stations in the U.K. (IRA bomb risk I think) I expect they would have been binned. I’d have a quick look in the hedges etc. near the first well-lit private places.
Check back with Lost & Found 4-7 days after this happens.
Frequently, well-meaning people will stick lost items in their bag, intending to drop the item off on the way out…and forget. Upon their return visit, your item will show up after you have given up on it at the front desk.
I see this regularly with membership cards, water bottles, etc. at my club. Just a thought…
Wear a Speedo. It won’t get stolen. I don’t understand how anyone can wear jammers anyway

I probably have the worst locker at the Y. Only half ass shuts, have to double check it every time. Didn’t shut good once, some one took deodorant, powder, and shampoo. Left 2 swimsuits and 2 pairs of goggles. Figured if that’s what you’re taking you must really need it.
