Couldn’t find a thread going on these guys. If you haven’t been listening to ProTriNews podcast you are missing out. Good race recaps, predictions and just overall triathlon banter. Probably not for everyone but I have enjoyed listening to other folks discuss what I have been thinking about on my own for years. Rip 'em or praise 'em below!
Is the audio quality decent now? Listened to one episode a month back and it was painful. Also not a fan of their reckless posts before the Olympic team was announced. Otherwise obviously nice to have someone covering all aspects of pro racing.
Audio quality has improved IMO. Not sure when you last listened but they’ve added Chelsea Burns and Mark Matthew’s to the group. Great insight and observations from those two. Totally agree, the olympics posting was odd.

The audio quality of last week’s one was very acceptable. I absolutely recognise your ‘painful’ assessment from the late May one. Is that just the one Olympic team? I thought there were a few racing, and presume that there’ll be spectators beside the public roads of Tokyo. Matthews provides a useful balance to the fans of the usual suspects.
The new episode is the best I’ve heard since Chelsea Burns left the show. They have Patrick Lange on, and he is freaking hilarious, and busts the hosts’ balls like there’s no tomorrow.
It really was great, made me an even bigger fan of Lange. I totally forgot about Chelsea, she was terrific as part of the show.
Chelsea’s own ‘weekly’ pod (after she moved on from being the ‘short course guy’ on PTN) is ‘Chasing the Burn’ which I thoroughly recommend. Great interviews with Potter, Kingma and Knibb are the latest, but also Lagerstrom and some coaches earlier this year
Agreed and of course we’ve discussed these Chasing the Burn episodes here a number of times.
Hey @Kyleglass91, since you’re the boss and you’ve been posting in the forum (thank you), forgive me for splitting hairs, but this is something probably more than a few European listeners have noted: ProTriNews hosts refer to any salt water swim as an “ocean swim”.
But a lot of times it’s a sea swim, not an ocean swim, particularly in Europe. Places in the Mediterranean area like Marbella, Barcelona, Nice or Venice-Jesolo (anywhere in Italy, Greece, Turkey in particular) all have sea swims. Spain and France also have access to the Atlantic but no high-profile triathlons that I can think of. Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland and the north of France all have sea swims.
The only ocean swims in Europe I can think of are 70.3 Cork (Ireland) and 70.3 Cascais (Portugal).
A matter of pure semantics? Maybe, though a sea will on average be a bit flatter than an ocean, have nowhere near the currents and you will less frequently see the swim being shortened or cancelled.

I reckon close to zero “European listeners have noted” this.
You are dead right of course, but that’s a lot of words to expend on nothing.
What European (et al) listeners have noted: Americans seem to have disproportionate difficulty pronouncing forin names. But that’s almost part of the Glass-Cox-Mark-Pat charm.

not sure who to ask this but a question for @Kyleglass91
In the intro ad for Ventum they state the Tempus comes with a Vision Cockpit. Is he sure about this ? Web site has Profile Design everywhere. Am I out to lunch ?
I have certainly not noticed but then iam not a polish word nazi.
so if ocd Ajax is ok would say 98 percent are ok.

The thought that either yourself or @Ajax_Bay (European? had no idea) could be representative of the European PTN listener population quite frankly frightens me

This is a big point of contention for you?
And for the geographiles (!!!?!!) there are seas that are oceans too - soooo much to think about ![]()
I appreciate this level of detail - good to know the difference

Next you’ll be suggesting that the typical European PTN listener does NOT first listen to the pod and then once released, relisten to it on Pro Tri News youtube.
The last moments of the last episode with @talbotcox ‘s filibustering, egged on from the Loughboro’ cheap seats, in an effort to precipitate a Taylor moment in Boulder was golden.
And for the geographiles (!!!?!!) there are seas that are oceans too - soooo much to think about
If you’re keeping count, the seven “seas” Ben Gravy surfed were:
- North Pacific: Chiba, Japan
- Indian Ocean: Bali, Indonesia
- Southern Ocean: Bells Beach Australia
- South Pacific: Sydney, Australia
- South Atlantic: Galveston, Texas (I’d say that’s closer to calling it The Gulf, or Caribbean, but a stretch either way; don’t know why Red Bull couldn’t schedule a stop in Brazil, to make it a LEGIT South Atlantic claim?)
- North Atlantic: Atlantic City, New Jersey
- Arctic Ocean: Oslo, Norway
This is a big point of contention for you?
Pet peeve! Was it worth writing a forum post on? Only if there’s a reasonable chance I’ll hear Mark Matthews’ abuse… ![]()
You must have been pleased when michealie Jones
Called it the met ,people swim in Nice
