Waay better than all the chat. Erdinger ftw.

Funny Mark was mentioning dirty Saudi money for the PTO when his wife is paid by Bahrain. :’)

Did he actually use the word “dirty”?

I remember he did, but I could be wrong (listened on a run). It doesn’t really matter as it was mentioned as a dig at T100. Mark might just be taking the piss at people complaining about Saudi money. His sarcasm isn’t always very obvious.

He did, albeit in a joking manner.

The way I understood this thing is that “Saudi money” is thrown at various unsustainable or unrealistic projects on a whim, this is a synonym of money you burn and run out and it’s over.

Bahrain on the other hand is a long term sportswashing project which brings (supposedly) good PR that the kingdom needs (in view of further demonstrators being executed), thus being sustainable

He now reiterated it more firmly and it was clearly not tongue in cheeck. I agree on the Saudi money, but don’t take on Bahrain money if you’re serious about it. :joy:

Yep, I was talking out of my ass here (whether or not in good faith).

Very much a fan of the show but the constant need to be the Ironman rules committee is getting BORING AF. Episode titles T100 Preview yet half the show is talking about the same rule changes as the last 100 episodes. Move on boys. Even Steph, who I think is a great addition with a normally even take, got in on the nonsense with the request to change the helmet rule to mirror the same odd zipper rule they continuously pan.

Also, sorry Mark, but not EVERY pro wants a 20m drafting zone. All your friends and family may want that and I’d agree most want it but not all. The swim bikers are silently prayed it never changes. They all tell you they want it bc you have labeled any one who remotely drafts a cheat and anyone who wants any draft advantage a cheat. So why would anyone ever admit to you they want a shorter draft zone when you’re going to turn around and publicly call them cheaters or lazy cyclists or opportunities or whatever negative take you label them with.

Maybe go an episode or 20 without talking about rules (unless on actually impacts a race) or rename the podcast TRC, Triathlon Rules Committee.

Wouldn’t a strong SB want the rest of the race to have the work the most in order to catch up, which is a 20m draft zone vs the current setup, right?

It would be the strong runners who don’t want the change right? They can sit in easier in the group, doing the least amount of work and then take off and run well.

I’ve personally spoken to most the top 50 men and women and they emphatically want it changed. So yes MOST want the 20m draft zone.

We have got alot of positive messages about this week’s topic of the week. What would you like us to talk about next time?

I think swim runners would also want it. They can gap the bad swimmers then hold onto the front as long as possible, then hold the chase and not hope to hold off the uber bikers long enough to have a lead on the run.

I think some swim bikers want it because they can get out in front and just go in a pack and gap the bike runners to the point of making them irrelevant. An example is in 70.3, if the uber swim bikers get far enough out and work together they can create enough of a gap to LS or SL they can’t bike run back into contention.

Who absolutely wants it is anyone who doesnt come out near the front of the pack in the swim. They are the most impacted by a 12m draft zone.

I just think there are less athletes who don’t want a “fairer” race then what your implying. And I think implying that it’s only a small nature of athletes cus they’ll “benefit” from it, is slightly disrespectful. I think many just want a cleaner/fairer race, not because “I will benefit from it so it must be that way”. Time after time athletes will say it’s a totally different experience racing in 20m vs 12m draft zones. Doesn’t mean it “changes” the outcome, but it makes it more “individual”.

Of course they say that to you Kyle you guess called everyone out as cheaters at least 3 times this episode (naming dropping a dude for yo-yoing a female pro for virtually no time, come on now). No one will give you their honest opinion if they disagree bc you all have been so strident about it. You all have left no room for dissent from anyone on the subject so why would a pro want to have that interaction with you, better to just agree and move on.

Please please please anything other than rules for a few weeks. Unless of course something happens this week where a rule ACTUALLY impacts a race, then it’s totally pertinent and worth covering.

Maybe talk about a lesser known athlete. You all at one point mentioned the idea of highlighting an up and coming athlete. Maybe do a profile on Megan M as she just podiumed and is friends with (trained by?) Mark and Kat. Seems a worthy time to give her some air.

You think it’s fairer bc you think drafting is cheating and no one should get any aero advantage. I think it’s gamesmanship and allows some drama and race dynamic. A string of 10 dudes 20 meters apart never attacking, never changing position for 2 hrs is boring AF. I think everyone should look for the opportunities to win based on their strengths.

BTW im not set on 12 or against 20, but I hate the hyperbole of EVERY pro athlete demands it bc it’s just not true. That’s my real gripe. 20 meters actually would help the athletes I like so Im not opposed to it FOR PROS only. Fuck all 20 meters would be hell in an AG field

Let’s be real though
A string of 16 12m apart never attacking, never changing position for 2 hours is as boring AF right? Whether it’s 12m or 20m, it’s all boring as fuck.

and BTW I’ve been on the “make it DL” cus we can’t properly officiate non-draft anyways. Of course that will never happen, but non-draft under the context of the last 50 years had made no sense. It’s literally 60 miles of real estate covered by 2-4 people on a moto bike and we think everyone is going to follow the rules under that context? Like come on. Which is why RR can be so helpful, important in that aspect.

Ask your expert panel what they think the watts savings of the 12 and 20m draft zones are. With such a strong position, they must know.

True story which is why I think they need to fix the slotting rule not the distance. I think the rule should be something like if you make a pass you have 20 seconds to get out of the red of the person in front. But you’re allowed to pass with out passing everyone
