Porn - They'll know it when they see it

This ain’t it - Parents of 6th graders get teacher fired for showing a photo of the statue of David. Florida. Because of course

It isn’t porn, but I can’t imagine any of my middle school teachers showing a picture of David full monty back when I was in school.

Utterly ridiculous, at the same time she should have had more sense than that. Just assume you’re going to have some wacko parents and kids in the class who could be discomforted by the sight of a penis or breasts in any context. Just give them the option to sit out that part of the class.

in an art history lesson for 6th graders a photo of David is shown.

6th graders have probably seen much worse . . . but

it was questionable judgment on the part of the teacher . . . but

firing her was ridiculous overreach.

I still remember our principal walking in to our English class during a nude scene in a movie version of MacBeth (I think that’s what it was) when I was in high school.

This is so dumb.

My Latin in teacher in high school used to flip past pictures of naked statues on the film strips of art from ancient Rome, but we all laughed because we knew Magister Frawley had been in seminary until he met a woman and jumped the wall, and his delicate sensibilities didn’t extend beyond the classroom door.

This is where we are as a country, apparently. And the governor of that benighted state has a good chance being the next President.

How do I send a fig leaf to all parents in FL. They can put it over their delicate children’s eyes, when they aren’t watching Pornhub on their iPhones.

It is pretty graphic and sixth grade is probalby young for putting this in front of them in an art class. I figure they don’t due a section on nudes either and live models come for them to draw. And sure, you could probalby expect to get some pushback from parents so they didn’t think it through.

I would not fire her or the teacher but simply say, “hey, dont do that again and cut out the nudes”

The kids can learn about that the way we did with playboy and the internet.

when they aren’t watching Pornhub on their iPhones.

Wait, you can do that?

At the same time, how are they going to explain what is male and what is female in their gender affirmation studies if they don’t show some twig and berries.

I am pretty sure that by grade 6 we were shown pictures of human genitalia in health class.

That’s what I’ve heard. Totally haven’t tried it.

You degenerate Canadians maybe, but not down here in Texas. At least not in my private school. Not sure about the unwashed masses in the public schools.

Right. Playboy (which doesn’t really exist anymore) and the internet are a much more controlled and safer way to learn about “that”.

Pretty sure we did it in 5th grade in a public school in DE back in the 80’s. Girls in one room, boys in another.

Do they not read the Bible? This is the David from David and Goliath. Or are the Magots just jealous of his oversized hands?

Please…

My kids who were in grade 5 (boy) and grade 2 (girl) saw the real thing in Florence. They’re ok. The boy laughed a little. Not as much though as when they saw the nudes in the MoMa.

Thanks. Now I feel violated!

I have to embarrassingly admit I had my iphone for far too long before it even occurred to me. I’m still perplexed as to why it didn’t occur to me sooner.

Please…

do you see the difference in a parent making the decision to expose their kid to nudes in a museum and the school putting it in a kids face during mandatory art history class?

Everyone doesn’t have the same sensibilities to nudity and what age it should be shown to kids and that is OK. I have no problem with a parent that doesn’t want their kids to see nude depictions of photos until they are older. It’s their choice. School should be smarter but I wouldn’t fire anyone over it. Live and learn and don’t do it again.

not to complicate things, but David was between 13-15 when he killed Goliath, so . . . we’re all perverts
