How many STers out there use a tri-specific cycling shoe? What brand and why? I’m thinking of getting the Specialized Trivent shoes but want to hear some opinions.
i’m going into my second season using the Trivents.
comfortable, fit my narrow feet quite well, and i’m now used to the sunburn spots.
Trivent again here. Well ventilated for this Texas heat on black top roads. The radiating road heat can easily get to 120 degrees. It already hit 91 degrees yesterday and slated to hit close to 100 this weekend. They are also a very stiff and comfortable shoe. Easy on and off and reasonable priced for a decent shoe.
Tri vents here too. I’m on my second season. I only have one pair of shoes, so I use them for training and racing. I’ve been very happy with them. I don’t have a reason to try anything else.
Sidi’s.
sidi T2’s, very breathable wit hthe open areas, fit even my wide feet (they are narrow shoes). very very easy to get into and light.
Ditto what applenut said…trivents are great. The ONLY thing I don’t like about the trivents is that the upper mesh above the toes can be “cut” easily by an unruly and uncooperative big-toe nail. Now my right one has a hole in it, but I don’t notice it at all.
Sidi
.
what ever number we’re up to on recommending the trivents I’ll add to it. Comfortable, light, cool and not a lot of $$. If you only have one pair of shoes, wear some warm socks when it gets cold, they really do vent the air well. Going on my 3rd year in them. Liked them so much I bought a pair of their road shoes when they were on sale.
good luck

I’m wearing Pearl Izumi Tri-fly’s. Nice Carbon sole and a very comfy sock like fit. Got them at a sample sale for 115 canadian. Too bad i ripped a few holes in them in a crash last saturday. shoe glue to the rescue. ![]()
Sidi.
I actually have somewhat wide feet and these were more comfortable than the trivents.

I’ve been wearing Sidi T1’s for almost 10 years.
Sidi
.
I use Shimano.
Nice shoe, one strap, carbon sole, stiff as h…
The best one for you is the one that fits you the best. Despite the popularlity of the specialized and sidi in these reponses, neither may be the best fit for you, or both may be good choices. I think that shoes are like saddles, in that there are many good quality choices, but individual fit is highly variable.
Shimano - cuz I have hard to fit feet, and Shimano’s fit, whereas Specialized, Sidi’s and many others hurt like hell.
The Nike cycling shoes also work for me. They’d be my second choice.
Does anyone know when the 2008 pearl izumi tri fly shoe will be available? Has anyone heard of any new 08 tri shoes coming out that are worth waiting for? I need new shoes, but might wait! Thanks.
Specialized Trivent…
Not so funny story, I have been riding with the Trivent shoe for close to a year after getting rid of the Sidi’s that just didn’t work with my foot. Last week I drove off with them on my trunk or aliens abducted my Trivent shoes. In Seattle, no bike shops carry the shoes so I started trying on every other shoe. With a race a week away I ended up overnighting a new pair from Specialized.
The only complaint I had about them was the white color…turns out they just started producing them in silver. Same great fit & function now not as ugly as the white was.
Overall the shoe fits me well, easy to get into, great stiff carbon sole and TONS OF AIR FLOW…
Good luck
Starting to sound like a broken record on this one, but Trivents are a great shoe. I’ve been using them as my every day shoe for about a year and half (although I might get some road shoes this Winter because they do get chilly).
I’ll break from the ranks and recommend the LG Tri Air or for $100 more the Carbon Tri Air. Awesome fit, very stiff, and looks great too!
