30s+ gap for the front group of 8…Blu / Yee in the chase group. Tough swim for McQueen to not make that front group.

Our guy Seth is in the chase group as well.

Iden seems to be just off back of main chase group or either at the tail end of it.

US men on struggle bus right now. McDowell’s timing chip is still in T1 (not sure if that is a DNF or fell off).

40s gap between the chase group and front after 1 of 8 laps. They ain’t pulling that gap back, that group. is too big as the commentators are saying.

Ya 40 seconds on lap one, and all the favorites in the huge chase group. Luis is on fire today, got something to prove in his comeback. He absolutely destroyed the swim, some really good off the front swimmers missed the group

Luis isn’t race fit and might suffer on the run.

A gap like that has got those guys in the front willing to work their ass off to have career day finishes for several of them. ~39s but the chase group is on it as it’s split up that 35+ person group.

McDowell DNF- mechanical

We’ve talked about Brent Demarest who is a really really strong runner that moved back into ITU. He lost the chase group and is now 1:15+ down.

Chase group has all the run favorites minus Birtwhistle and Mola (he never was in contention). besides the front group athletes.

Birtwistle 2 mins down and Mola 2:20 down looks like good night Vienna.

Well all the favorites besides Luis, heard he can run too… (-;

Man Luis is just on fire, put 10 more seconds into the chasers, he is cornering really fast too, putting all the guys on his wheel in tough spots and they are opening gaps they have to close.

The whole front group is on fire, continuing to put time into the chase group. This is textbook how a small group can work together to keep that pressure on.

Another few seconds, could have over a minute by the end, gonna be real hard to podium from the chase at this rate. But the pace will be hot from the get go from that 2nd pack, expect it to explode in a couple k’s and be just a few going for the front.

I wonder if there are any domestics in the chase, otherwise if not, then the last couple laps could bleed a lot more time to the front
.

Pssst ITU turn down the transition microphone a little bit. We don’t need to hear Welchy and others on the microphone pumping up the crowd.

Chase group gained 10s back, down 42s to go 3 laps to go.

Yes there is a big chase going on now, domestics and favorites finally working together it looks like. Front group has to stay together and keep the pressure on, if they start looking around at each other, they are going to be looking behind too half way through the run. A minute and they would be clear, 20 to 30 seconds and many or most will get caught

2 laps to. go 40s gap with our boy Seth leading chase group through T.

Looks like all 3 of the Norgs are up hitting the chase hard too, trying to close enough to strike on the run. No sweep this year im afraid, but they are defending best they can

Thorn’s gotta get results to show he deserves Norwegian spot especially if only 2 men spots are up for grabs. I have a feeling LC legs won’t do well for the 2 star athletes.

Of course we’ll almost assuredly see Blu “storm” out of T2 with his hair on fire.

Ok time to start talking about who can run in that lead group. We know Luis is the class runner, but just dont know how he will go coming back from injury. Who else can hold off 40 seconds from the likes of Yee, Blu, Mola, Murray, and many more?

Demarest DNF due to mechanical from earlier comment, as is Murray, Mislawchuk and B’whistle
