Of course she gained an advantage. She was swimming the course anti-clockwise and without being told to turn back and go the other way she would have lost a LOT more time or be disqualified had she reached the bouy at the far end of the course.
Had she lost anymore time she wouldn’t have made any of the bike packs and it would have been good night Vienna.
"The [new] President of World Triathlon is Antonio Fernández Arimany. . . . The elections had a somewhat remarkable twists, with several media even receiving smear campaigns directed at one of the candidates.
“Fernández Arimany defeated Michelle Cooper (Australia), Tamás Tóth (Hungary), Mads Freund (Denmark) and Ian Howard (Great Britain) in the election.”
A bunch of websites called for corruption basically. 2 of the candidates magically dropped out in Vichy and started asking their supporters to give their votes to Arimany, and this is not allowed and actually got reprimanded by the relevant tribunal.
I mean, it was pretty obvious who was gonna win…
Well thank god after close to 2 years, the previous office staff who promoted themselves to the highest positions have been overruled and someone with some idea employed.
Well that’s consistent: they also protested the Beaugrand ‘redirection’ was ‘outside assistance’. Both essentially for intra-team/fed consumption (my totally uninformed perpective). Has the detail of the complaints made been made public (I looked). The IOC dismissed these complaints as ‘not our part of ship, mate’.
May I ask (since you know about these things) what in practical terms are the changes he (and you I sense) might have made? How does the NON-athlete centred nature of World Tri currently reveal itself?
In advance, there was suspicion of collusion regarding the office of president, vice-president and committees, and that key people in and around the International Triathlon Federation (World Triathlon, WT) had made a sandwich list for selected delegates to vote for.
After the congress, the German journalist Jens Weinreich published a list that had been distributed before the congress and which is almost identical to the voting results for the presidential, vice-presidential and board elections.
Anette Brurås presidenrt of norwegian federations
confirms this to Idrettspolitikk.no.
some norwegian speakers may have a look if that sound realistic some part translated .
One of the delegates sitting right next to me barely managed to cast his vote, but he had been given a list in advance with instructions on how to vote, says Brurås with relief.
I don’t think he knew any of those he voted for and he was unlikely to have read the congressional papers sent out.
From the voting throughout the process, including elections to committees, it became clear that lists were being circulated for who should be elected with support from parts of Asia, Africa and America. Europe did not have such lists and was perhaps a little too naive in this whole process, she says.
i have no idea but from what i understand the new president does not deny those lists existed, but says he had no idea that anything was going on. again this is me referecening him saying he had no idea what was going on , he is not saying nothing was going on …
at the same time nothing to unusual in those circles.
this is apparently the lists many delegates had .
and apratnlly 69 of 71 or so got elected from that list iam not sure if 71 is the correct number but all but 2 is what i remember.
He can influence policy but can be over ruled. I can’t see much changing until they actually focus on athletes, fund athletes and use the budget to support athletes.
The reason a high profile short course athlete would do any remaining world/conti cups this year would be to get a better ranking coming into the next year’s WTCS, right?
I think mentally we’re (and they’re) in 2025 already. Time for a new thread. I won’t die on this hill though!
I think if we wait for the end of season announcements, funding changes and coaching movements a 2025 thread starting with those changes would be better?
we could just continue on this thread as a side note what i never get is that some countries announce funding for 2025 in 2025 not great for planning a season. i have had one case where the deadline for funding application was december 13 and it was rougly mid january till he got it.
and heard of one case a few years ago where an athelte got cut of funding at the end of the year with a letter arriving on december 23rd
at the same time i think that there is defo a trend that countries are doing this better now and you tend to have more transition time especially after an oly cycle.
