Bush cozied up to the his amigo, the Mexican president, and ensured the highest levels of illigal immigration America has ever seen.
And Chuck Schumer has a comprehensive immigration reform bill ready to go; the framework of which I laid out here a couple of weeks ago, and whichwas applauded by the right. It includes, securing the border, sanctioning employers who hire undocumented labor, the detention and removal of those convicted of certain crimes, AND a path to citizenship for those who are trying to make a life and an honest living here, by making sure they pay all back taxes and penalties, a fine for entering illegally, and undergo a full criminal background check. If they meet all these requirements they will be given Lawful Prospective Immigrant status and 8 years after that they will be allowed to apply for a green card and 7 years after that citizenship.
When I laid out the bones of this plan, the right here cheered me. Now that its a bill with a Democratic author, I fully expect the usual battle lines to be drawn and for you all to run away from your beliefs and get behind your party. Please prove me wrong, just this once.

Point of clarification, the Senate passed it’s version yesterday. There is still the minor matter of getting the two bills reconciled. Next up will be Kagan’s nomination (check). Immigration reform will be very tough to do this year. Still, the Dems have certainly gotten lots of things done, much more than the last couple of sessions of Congress.

Giving America the largest tax increase in history during the worst economic crisis since the depression - check!

Labeling service members returning from overseas and anyone who doesn’t agree with the liberal agenda as extremist - check!

Fannie/Freddie were put into conservatorship in Sept, 2008 during the Bush administration.
The Bush administration got the ball rolling on the auto bailouts by handing GM/Chrysler $14 billion in December, 2008. Bush then punted the ball to the Obama administration, who completed the job.

?? The Republicans had control of the house from 1995-2006, encompassing fully 3/4 of the Bush administration.
The Senate was 50/50 with Cheney being the tie-breaker for 2001-2002, and then Republican from 2003-2007. They had 55 seats from 2005-2007.
