NYT: Armstrong’s Testing Plan Ends Before it Begins

haha… what an awesomely ridiculous reply to an innocuous post. Nobody cares about your kids, or that you have kids.

Tom P. Levi supposedly won the US Pro Criterium in the late 90s (I might be remembering this incorrectly) and then failed a drug test afterwards. He was given a slap on the wrist, but apparently this sort of thing was common enough that it wasn’t heavily reported and most of the stories have been erased. I heard this all from a different source, and it was many years later, so I might be remembering things incorrectly. There was a screen capture I was shown that seemed to prove it though.

sorry, my post was just a stream of consciousness on the subject. Oh I get the “fox guarding the henhouse” bit. Can we update that analogy and bring it into the 21st century? Something along the lines of Lance guarding the “growth hormone, cortisone, EPO, steroids and testosterone.” That quote was shamelessly lifted from sworn court testimony.

How about “Barney Frank guarding the nations finances.”

There are too many snap judgements in this thread to really choose who’s comments to respond to.

“Lance Armstrong’s test results posted online”
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id=news/2009/feb09/feb12news3

LA is still having his test results posted, just through a different doctor. LA was without an anti-doping expert for less than 24hrs and everyone thinks it’s proof of something. I feel sorry for the guy, after all it’s impossible to prove a negative. There is NO way for him to prove he was always clean, only ways to prove he wasn’t. “Lighten up Francis.”

“There is NO way for him to prove he was always clean, only ways to prove he wasn’t.” I COMPLETELY agree. Here are some things he has done that I believe “prove he wasn’t.”:

  1. Hiring Dr. Ferrari…and keeping it a closely guarded secret. What exactly was he paying Ferrari for and how much $$$ did he give him? Then again we were supposed to believe Carmichael was the coach.
  2. Telling Bassons to leave the sport of cycling.
  3. Failing a corticoid test in 99. Then miraculously producing a Dr.'s note for the product. Something that should have been divulged before the race.
  4. Chasing down Simeoni.
  5. Telling Lemond he could find 10 people that will swear he took EPO.
  6. Sworn testimony by an ex-teammate that Lance admitted doping. But then again EVERYONE else is lying.
  7. His 99 tour samples were retroactively tested and found to contain EPO. then again they may not have been stored properly. Someone could have accidentally dropped ALL of the samples into a pot of EPO they had sitting around the lab.

that is enough for now…

None of these are proof. They are circumstantial. It’s different. The only one that isn’t circumstantial is #3.

Circumstantial evidence can add up to the belief that he wasn’t clean. But belief is different than proof.

whoa, they built a unicorn? that is badass

Let me get this right:

  1. NO signed contract with Catlin for 5 months?
  2. COST is mentioned as a reason for termination?
  3. The drug testers would be “tripping over themselves” to get to Lance?

This is the bullshit of all bullshit.

If you want to believe, fine. Ring ling Brothers Circus once had a real unicorn. Then we found out they had drilled a hole in a horses skull and implanted the horn. Lance’s excuses on this issue are tantamount to an admission of guilt. That’s what I want to believe.

If we want to get extremely picky about the requirements of evidence for proof, you can’t prove ANYTHING.

i don’t know who wrote it but i think the key with armstrong is that he has always contended that he has never tested positive for any banned substances…staying one step ahead of the testing authorities i am sure has always been a high priority for a modern cycling team…it sucks…what about this kid who just died a “natural death” in his sleep at the tour of qatar, why wouldn’t you as a father want to know how your child died(by performing an autopsy which his family refused)unless of course you already know…

some people don’t like the idea of having the corpse of their dead son carved up by a doctor.

shrug

yeah i agree with that but not in this case…a healthy 20 year old, obviously in tremendous shape, dies in his sleep the night before the final stage of a professional bike race…unless you have a pretty good idea of why he died you have an autopsy performed so you know for sure…my brother in law died in his sleep at 31(15 years ago) and you better believe there was an autopsy performed(brain anuerysm)…so not having one performed in itself is incriminating…unfortunatley

Viva the unicorn
.

twoyacks the parallel of lances career and the unicorn is uncanny…thank you
.

The best part of that website has to be that your mouse pointer turns into a trail of unicorns. Where can I get that? I think that would give me some more man-points, no?

I was inspired by Lance’s diatribe on the Tour Podium…that bit about people not wanting to “believe in miracles…” The last time I believed in a miracle I got burned…DAMN you Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey Circus!!! and DAMN your Greatest Show on Earth! I’m just saying…if it looks like a unicorn and acts like a unicorn…
It’s amazing what you find when you dig a little…the following is from 3 scientific journals…

  1. Since Human Growth Hormone increases the growth rate and size of cells, this includes cancer cells, so it is not recommended that people with cancer or a high risk of cancer use Human Growth Hormone.
  2. HGH- If used for use of training, growth at a young age (25 or less) can cause severe symptoms. One survey of adults who had been treated with replacement cadaver GH (which has not been used anywhere in the world since 1985) during childhood showed a mildly increased incidence of colon cancer and prostate cancer, but linkage with the GH treatment was not established.
3.Patients treated with human pituitary growth hormone had an almost threefold increased risk of death from cancer overall, and were at around an eleven times greater risk of dying from colorectal cancer or Hodgkin’s disease. After the exclusion of patients whose reason for growth hormone treatment rendered them at a high risk of cancer, the risk of incidence of colorectal cancer was significant, as were the risks of death from colorectal cancer or Hodgkin’s disease.

  1. It was the US Amateur Crit championships
  2. He tested positive for an allergy medicine. A medicine that is now legal even without a TUE.
  3. The suspension was the norm for that type of offense in that day.

Think of it this way. In the 90’s did you ever take Nyquil? Did you ever take Sudafed in the 90’s? Congratuations you are a DOPER. You just didn’t get caught because WADA didn’t show up at your house or you didn’t win the right races at that time.

Nyquil dopes you up? No wonder I had such a good run today, I’ve been taking nyquil all week to help kick this stupid cold!

That is along the lines of what i have been thinking all along, but wouldn’t say it. It could be linked to some athletes who die at very early ages or who develop certain conditions.

What I am very open to saying is that taking PEDs is dangerous and putting your health at risk!

There are probably online medical drug books now and you will be able to read all the contra-indications and some of the side effects.

here is some more info:

“The consensus is that most testicular cancer is thought to originate with lesions in utero, and that the peak age for testicular cancer to actually occur begins, really, right after adolescence,” he noted. "That’s when hormones released during puberty appear to promote cancer by essentially throwing fuel on the lesion fire, following a relatively long latency. The point being that you don’t suddenly wake up one morning with a tumor.

just did a search of the internet and found this:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,213881,00.html

I would have to agree with aspects of the above article.

If LA did use PEDs and wants to be a good advocate for fighting cancer, then I hope he is or can be honest.

It might help discourage other young athletes from using PEDs? Good role models are important.

Youre a lawyer arent you?!
