NYC Roll Call

I’ll be race announcing this weekend at the NYC Triathlon! I’ll also be leading 1/2 of the pre-race meetings. Who’s going to be doing the race? Z

PS - This is for Michael - Gatorade will be on the course of course.

I’m in from Illinois with my Orange and Blue helmet, my Illinois decals on my bike and my Illinois baseball hat. Os kee wa wa

Pat - My wife went to U of I - and her family still lives in Urbana! She is still upset about the NCAA’s finals! See you in the Big Apple - I’ll look for your orange and blue helmet! Z

Not racing, but I will probably be at the AGTri booth at the expo on saturday.

I’m signed up. But given that I could use a last long weekend before IMLP, I will be watching the weather to guage the likelihood of a du (and stay home for long w/o’s).

The current forecast is for heavy rain on Friday and thunderstorms on Sat. If that happens, it makes a du highly likely. I love NYC Tri for the “urban-ness” of the event. I particularly like the funkiness of swimming in the Hudson. But of the last 5 NYC events I have signed up for (NYC tri’s and several of the Manhattan Island Foundation swims) only one swim (NYC tri '04) didn’t get canceled or changed due to water quality. Given the logistics of having to get to registration/athlete’s meeting by 5:30 PM Sat. and spend the night beforehand, it makes a long haul for a short stroke if you don’t live there.

There is nothing like riding on an urban highway, however!

Reggiedog - I’m also doing LP, so it will be nice to only announce in NYC! Lets hope the rain stays away and I do not have to tell athletes during the pre-race meetings that we will be doing a 'duathlon".

I’m hoping to get a nice long run in on Friday morning- go around the park 3 times - Z

Z - from the stories I’ve heard of you turning runs into “adventures” and knowing NYC like I do, I can only imagine the detours 3 laps will enable - 5th Avenue, Central Park South, the West side, Carosel, hot dog vendors (“Tube Steaks in the Umbrella Room”)…gotta loop down to Rock Center (50th & 5th)…run the shore path along the river (accessible from any street going west, nice run down to Battery Park and good looking roller bladers and joggers)…small loop of the reservior…make it an urban event, don’t try and make a city event into a country thing.

I ride my bike to the train from the 'burbs, then ride from Grand Central to the Hyatt for packet pick up, then ride from there to the boat basin to drop the bike and return the same way…after a fully urban tri…hope the rain doesn’t and I see you there.

Yes- I will be taking a break for a “brown water dog” during my training run/walk in Central Park! The hot dogs on the LP course at the aid stations are just not up to the high standard that you find in the city! Z

See, here my Illini pride kicks in. I’ll take fresh vegetables-tomato, cucumber, hot pepper-with celery salt and mustard on my dog over that vile cole slaw anyday. NY’s got nothing on Chicago when it comes to hot dogs or pizza.

So Tom, I’ll be listening for some mention of my Fighting Illini when you announce my name? Tell your wife to be proud, our guy fought as hard as any group could. The year was a dream.

Suburban NJ checking in…

About 25 minutes (or 2 hours depending on the traffic) out of NYC…

Do we HAVE to rack our bikes the night before?

B.

Based on the weather report, highly unlikely that there will be a swim.

Do you know when they’ll make the call for tri or du?

I believe the RD makes the call Sunday morning. Maybe if it is obvious on Sat. afternoon (like then they were in the middle of 3 days of hard rain) if there is a chance to swim, I think most RD’s wait until the last minute. I think it is actually an NYC health dept. call.

What’s the expo like? Good? I’ll be in and out of NYC this weekend. Actually racing in Allentown, PA (The Bicycle Crossing Sprint Tri) on Sunday, but thought I might check out the expo Saturday, if it’s worth it. Any thoughts from people who have been before?

I’m in and will be wearing a Team Excel singlet. Really enjoyed the race last year.

I will be there. Working for the sbr shop on saturday morning at the expo and then racing on sunday. So I have a good excuse if I don’t do well, because my feet were hurting from all that standing. :o) Say hi if you visit the expo, 6’-6" with german accent.

Will be there. Wearing a yellow Cervelo tri-suit.

Check. Not too excited about the idea of a du though.

yes, you have to rack bikes the night before…according to the directions. But I do think I remember people doing it race day last year. But given that you do have to pick up your number the day/evening before, you might as well get the bike done then as well.

I’ll be there in non-descript Craft kit. It’s my bike that will be noticed!!

Speaking of bikes, notwithstanding the overnight security in transition, is it really safe? I will be bringing a lock having lived in the City for 12 years.

See you at packet pick-up tomorrow.

bike should be fine they have security folk all night long and they are pretty regimental about letting only athletes in.

anyone know what the swim current looks like? Is it going to be for or against and getting stronger or weaker between 6 and 7am?
