NYC Roll Call

Will be there in a blue “Running Away” singlet (local Chicago running store). I’ll cry if it’s a Du…literally my knees may fall apart. Also, 1/2 the reason for deciding to race was to tell people that I swam in the Hudson (thought it made me sound tough). On a side note, can’t agree with TRILLINI on the hot dog and pizza comment. Want to, but we Chicagoans are kidding ourselves.

Dead low at the GWB is at 6:33. That means that the earlier waves will get the benefit of the ebbing tide, while later waves (like mine, 7:00 am) will swim against the early stages of the flood (adverse) tide. Sorta bummed because I haven’t done this race before but was there for the first one when the current was like a highway and people were just flying down the river.

Dude, that’s just wrong. First of all weird brown, gas inducing stuff on a dog is well, all I can say is why. And second of all admitting your NY preference in public, I don’t know, I’ll be shaking my head all week. Oh and that flat wasa bread like pizza-fuhgetaboutit.

But I agree with you about swimming in the Hudson. I love telling people I survived stuff like that even if it isn’t a big deal at all.

Have a safe flight and if you see me, you’ll know I’m from Illinois.

I recognize the wrongness of saying such things. It’s just how I feel. Good luck on the race and have fun. I’ll probably be wearing my Peaceful Tribe hat on the run if there’s any sun so give a wave as you go by. I’m in the first of the M 30-34 ag.

any suggestions on the best way from laguardia to the hotel? It’s going to be my first time in NY and i’d have no idea if the cabbie would be ripping me off by taking the scenic route. My hotel doesn’t offer a shuttle either since it’s the cheapest one in the area. If anybody wants to pick up someone and say they met one of the elite racers i’d greatly appreciate it, although i won’t promise anything come race day . Thanks all!

all bikes have to be in Saturday night - there’s no check in Sunday morning according to the site and that rule was strictly enforced in the past
.

<I haven’t done this race before but was there for the first one when the current was like a highway and people were just flying down the river. >

I did this race the first year and we had a 2+ knot current!

I’m not a very good swimmer(about 31 minutes for the mile),but I finished the swim in 15 minutes!! What a rush!

For safety reasons(the first year some people didn’t make the turn on the swim, and almost got swept under a barge)they will probably have us swimming closer to the wall, which means,no current to push you along:-(

I’ll be racing and praying that they don’t turn this into a du/bi-whatever-thon. I don’t see much point in doing the same sport twice. Anyway, its a fantastic race, and it will always have a place in my heart for being the first tri I ever did (2003).

The cheapest way would by the metropolitan bus and then change into the subway ($2).You may not want to do this with a bike box, although I’m using the subway all the time when leaving town. Otherwise, you can take a shuttle bus that stops on different locations in town. I assume it’s about $20. The cab ride may be around $30, perhaps you can split it with somebody else?

Yep, that’s the one. It was ugly at the barge. A few people came away pretty scraped up after hitting it.

This may all be moot since it looks like it is going to start raining tonight and not stop until Saturday morning. We’ll see.

Well, I hope. I’ve been signed up for this since December, as it seems like one of the world’s truly unique triathlons. Plus, I loved Chicago in '03, and it just seemed like a good time for another Urban Adventure. But the forecast has me worried, as does heightened security at the border (it’s an eight-plus hour drive for me under “normal” border conditions). I was planning to leave early tomorrow morning, but might wait a day or so. Hope to see you all there.

If you’re staying in midtown, they won’t take the scenic route. Just tell them the name of the hotel and the street and you should be okay. It shouldn’t cost more than $40. I know it’s a flat fee from the City to the airports, but I don’t think it works in reverse.

The other thing you could try is to try to meet someone in the cab cue at LGA and split the fare into NYC. That is pretty common.

Good luck (both in your travels and on Sunday).

Is bike racking assigned, or is it up for grabs?

I’m also racing (though with a still healing stress fracture, not sure that racing is the correct term!) Really hope the swim doesn’t get cancelled. Safe travels everyone!

I recall that you were assigned a spot. It is a big race and the T is a large area.

Check your email. A buddy and I may be able to get you from LaGuardia…
