I have been doing the oatmeal thing a four times a week now for some time. I just added two egg whites to the mix. MMMMMM good.
Here is the total formula for those of you on the West Coast that are just getting up.
Mix oatmeal whatever amount you want, raisins and brown sugar. Pour a little milk or if you are anti milk water over it then microwave, get cooking the egg whites (I add salt) and when they are cooked mix them into the oatmeal. I then put a little 1/2 and 1/2 on top and re microwave it for 30 seconds. Nice mix of fat, carbs and protein.
Then add about 12 Xmas cookies in for dessert.
I got to try this. I can’t stand oatmeal by itself but everything says it’s good for you.
I’m with you on this one auto. I can’t stand oatmeal by itself but boy do I love oatmeal cookies. So am I still getting the same benefits from the cookies;-)

I haven’t tried the egg version you describe, but I like to add protein powder to my oatmeal. It makes for an easy “on-the-go” post-workout breakfast…
1 cup quick oats
2 scoops protein powder
= ~550 cals
I heat water up in a microwave, then add it to the oatmeal/protein mix.
Hmm, sounds a bit weird but I’ll try it. I make my oatmeal on the stove top because microwaving changes the texture to be more gummy. I may try just stirring the egg whites into the boiling oats, could be good, could be bad.
I like to add a teaspoon of peanut butter to mine, YUM!
I have yet to find oatmeal that I really like. I don’t know if I’m just cooking it wrong, or what.
I do like it in apple crisp, though.
As a sometimes high altitude climber you learn how to eat oatmeal or you starve. I agree it is an acquired taste. Try Quaker “Take Heart.” Its pretty good. Have a bowl of Blueberry in front of me as I type this.

I am so with you on this. Oatmeal must be cooked on the stove, and it must a least be Old Fashioned (steel cut if you want a real treat). I usually have one serving of oats and one serving of Hodgson Mills Multi-grain cereal. I usually add 2 tbsp of protein powder to the mix as well. My next experiment is going to be cooking in my brand new rice maker.

OK, I just finished my oatmeal, and stirred in two scrambled egg whites while it was boiling. It was pretty good. I aded some brown sugar, pecans and raisens. I usually add ground flax as well, but I’m out…
The Hodgson Mill Multi-grain cereal has ground flax and soy. It is pretty interesting stuff…as far as breakfast cereals go. I’m not sold on the whole egg thing though. Somehow it doesn’t seem right.

I like oatmeal with stuff in it. more stuff the better.
I cook the stove top 5 minute kind with raisins, dried cranberries or blueberries and cinnamon with some really maple syrup or honey in it. Tastes great!
Try it with a lot of stuff in it before you give up on it.
I didnt know so many people had a aversion to oatmeal…the trick is to mix crap into it like someone above just said…the more sugary the better
.
If you put eggs in it, bacon is also required.
Gotta throw my winter oatmeal recipe in too!
1 Make your oatmeal.
-
Add: 2 scoops protein powder, 1 banana, some walnuts, cinnamon, 1 fair squeeze of maple syrup, vanilla Silk Soy Drink.
-
Sit, Pray, Attack!
and if you put bacon in it, homefries are required
.
Do you put the protein in the oatmeal as it’s boiling or when it’s cooking in the microwave? Whenever I dump the protein into the oatmeal after it’s cooked, the oatmeal becomes gummy and kind of gross. I still do it 4 or 5 out of the 7 days that I oatmeal-up in the morning, but it’s just kind of gross.
Peanut butter and jelly for me.
Wish I could do oatmeal, can’t. So vanilla yogurt with chocolate protein powder mixed in, followed by an egg, and finish with a bowl of grits. No, not all mixed together. I never really did the calculations but I figure I’m getting protein, fat, and carbs, not to mention the active cultures to keep the tummy calm. I might have to start throwing in a scoop or pnut butter for a little more fat once I up my training.
Well the Xmas cookies for breakfast are the most important thing!
I was so hungry after my ride this morning that I made a breakfast sandwich and a bowl of oatmeal.
I microwave the fat-free eggs for 3 minutes in a bowl and then plop them on toast - top with lowfat cheese and ketchup - very fast!
