Building first tri bike, and for ease of build i’m considering a setup of Force or Rival AXS FD+RD with 4 wireless blips. As far as I can tell, that’s all I need now that the derailleurs can work as hubs in stead of a blip box?
You don’t even need a front derailleur, you can get by with a rear derailleur and 4 blips. No need for a blip box anymore, though.
As he said above
It is so much easier now
Rear derailed
Couple blips
And good to go for 1x
Thanks!
What’s a good chainring/cassette combo for 1x ?
50 with 11-36 or more like 11-44?
Depends upon you
Your strength and the profile of of the courses you ride
The races I have done are all pretty flat so I don’t need larger gears on the back
you still need the blip box if you are running the clics though? or have the updated that so it doesnt need the blip box?
Would be interested to know what brand you are going for for the TT break levers? if going sram or something else?
Don’t need any blip box anymore!
what do the clics plug into/get power from? Or are you saying just to ditch them and go with 4 blips and 0 clics?
Yes just blips as they have a built in, non replaceable battery
The thing to note for the blips is that you need another set of shifters for the initial pairing - can be a pair from a different bike, otherwise your LBS should be able to help you out with that.
Went a similar route and just have a Rival RD and the blips.
You may be limited by how big a cassette gear your RD can accommodate. As far as the ratios, often on a 1x people will decrease their front chainring size because of this. Running a 48T front ring for example. But you lose a couple W chain efficiency when using smaller front rings and consequently using smaller rear cogs. See chart:
I thought you only needed the SRAM app now
Supposedly it’s quite easy to replace the batteries, you just have to score/cut open the casing. If I go this route I would for sure try to replace the batteries myself before buying new blips, as they are consumable anyways.
Yep you only need the app
I have 54 front 11-44 and 4 blips. Used for IMCHOO IMCA.
Planning on use it at NICE.
4 blips, a force derailleur, a red crankset (only because I needed GXP), genuine SRAM chain, and an offbrand 1x chainring. Have a force 10-36 for hilly courses and an offbrand (ZTTO) 10-28 for flat courses. Generic battery charger from amazon. Could easily save a few bucks from this setup with cheaper cranks and a rival RD. I also use my Wahoo with a shimano 12sp cassette so I didn’t have to get the xdr freehub. Works perfectly fine though the gear alignment is slightly off in certain cogs.
(Ignore chain wrap, this was before trimming)
That looks great. Is the crank set 1x specific or a 2x with single chainring?
what do you use to hold the blips in place?
Could you get the Shimano 12 speed cassette to shift fine if you played with the indexing?
