And it’s PC or MAC!!!
I didn’t see that it had GPS. Interesting that they would move into this business area since they are known for GPS.
that looks awesome and much more affordable than Polar.
What software does it use? I only found what it does not use.
If only wish it was power meter compatible and could send hr info to the powertap computer!
I love my Polar RS800sd, but it not being mac compatible stinks and means another $200 on buying windows xp and parallels.
and, I wish I didn’t have to switch out hr straps and computers when going from the bike to the run in training.
Garmin ALMOST got it perfect. I do prefer the footpod over gps - it’s more reliable and works on a treadmill. does the garmin do elevation change like the Polar?
Where did you see the price?
it uses Garmin Connect™ compatible (online community where you analyze, categorize and share data)
it does not provide elevation changes
.
I fail to see why you feel the Garmin is better.

Question: does this Garmin send email?

Just kidding, they look cool.
cheaper
compatible with Mac
ant+ for potential compatibility with other manuf.
can be used with cycling cadence and speed sensors (polar can also, but compare price)
again, works with mac!
If only they’d fix the chest strap to be more like the polar.
agree, my polar strap is so much better than my powertap strap. give it a few years and everything will be interchangeable ant+, at least I wish!
heck, I’d be satisfied if my polar rs800sd had mac compatible software and the chest strap could be read by the powertap computer and if the PT5 software could read the powertap info.
Don’t hold out for Garmin to work with Mac. I’m still waiting for my 405 to work with my Mac after almost 1 year! Last was Fall '08, now “1st quarter '09”. Right …
I suppose if those are important to you
I didn’t see a price but if you compare to the RS800, anything is cheaper
I don’t really care about Mac but I could see that others do
I don’t see a need to combine different types of electronics and still don’t know why people need to make gathering data more complicated

I’ve been lovin’ my Garmin for a while. It’s great because it interfaces directly with Training Peaks. Only three objections to the 305 (and sadly the 405 as well): Battery won’t last through an IM, can’t handle the swim and the HR strap isn’t compatible with gym equipment, so that I can’t see my HR on the dashboard of the treadmill.
The FR60 isn’t GPS, but I like the size and the new wireless data transfer.
My ForeRunner 305 battery made it through my 13:29:43 IM. ![]()
That included being turned on before I cleared out of transition before the
swim. The key is to turn off the gps for the bike.
But, we’ve beaten this topic to death. We have to see if they actually
come through with their tri device this spring or not.

Downside for me is, no altitude. For constant-paced runs over loops, not an issue. For workouts with intervals it’s kind of important to have both pace and elevation profile, otherwise you might as well not have pace info.
Or am I missing something?
If I were buying new, I’m thinking the Suunto t6c would be my choice, but that’s a whole other price range from this model.
They forgot to disclose that they won’t have the working software avaiilable for MAC until a year or two later, so even with the ANT stick it will be useless just like the 405…
It doesn’t use GPS, so you have to use a footpod for running…
Without reading through all the details, it seems like it’s going backwards and not forwards. Just another product to confuse the consumer. Doesn’t the Polar 625x or 800 series offer similar features already?
Doesn’t the Forerunner 50 already do just about all of that stuff? It has the ANT wireless transmitter, works with the foot pod and cadence sensor, and can be had for around $50 with the foot pod if you watch for deals. I have a Forerunner 50 and it’s good, but I like the 305 with GPS better. And having only two lines of data on the screen (on the FR50) isn’t quite enough. Please please please tell me this is not the watch that they are marketing toward triathletes - we want a waterproof 305 or 405!
why not get a garmin forerunner 50? this one doesn’t have a GPS either. 50 uses the foot pod and the cadence sensor and is waterproof, so i really don’t know what major difference is there?
Next!
As I look at the press release, competition with the Polar RS800cx is still a generation away - no GPS.
Also, the release seems to emphasize “stylish” and “fashionable” but Polar RS800 is still ahead on that score.
