Look out Polar, Garmin passed you by

why not get a garmin forerunner 50? this one doesn’t have a GPS either. 50 uses the foot pod and the cadence sensor and is waterproof, so i really don’t know what major difference is there?

FR50 is water resistant, not waterproof. Hopefully FR60 is waterproof and more. I like my FR50 as it complements the Edge 305 really well.

it might say water resistant but it is completely waterproof. I tried it out in open lake, swimming pool as well as a pool which is 8 feet deep. I have completely opened up the watch (since it was cheap) and there is nice seal in the housing. No issues whatsoever.

Garmin says the FR50 is “water resistant” to 30 meters in water, unlike the FR305 which they say “can withstand accidental immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes”. I swim with the FR50 every time I swim and it’s fine.

I’m wondering how big the footpod for the Garmin FR50 is (are the photos shown if googled true to size??) …Is it HUGE like the Polar Foot Pod?? I’d like something that measures my pace…but not if it means running with an enormous tumor growing from my shoe… :stuck_out_tongue:

lemme know, thanks

My wife has one. I’d say it’s roughly the size of those old school pink rubber
erasers. Little bulkier, not that shape, but I think it’s a good approximation.

There are two different Garmin food pods out there, I believe. The one I got with the FR50 is a smaller one, but they have an older, cheaper model that is bigger. The smaller one takes the watch type battery and I don’t notice it on my shoe at all.

there is another footpod coming out that is the same size as the Nike+ chip (but with replaceable battery)

the FR60 is waterproof… not like the fake waterproof of the other Forerunner family
but don’t forget… Ant+ does not transmit through water… so no HR data swimming

Will there be any kind of interference if you wear this watch on a bike while using another Garmin Device? I have the Garmin Edge 705 for my bike, which is awesome btw, and works just fine with Mac.

I want to get a HR watch/monitor for running, but would like to be able to wear it as a watch on the ride as well, without interference.

Thanks

Not sure if I fully follow the question, but the Garmin accessories are coded, and you pair them with the watch so they know what to “listen” to. And, you can pair the accessories to more than one watch if you want. I have the FR50 and the FR305 and I have all the accessories paired to both. That way I can wear either watch, or both at once if I ever wanted to, and they’d pick up the HR, cadence, etc…

The other ForeRunner family not advertised as being waterproof in any sense, real or fake. They explicitly state it is not waterproof

I disagree… they explicitly state that it is WATERPROOF to IXP7 levels. and they explicitly state that it is not suitable for swimming as IPX7 does not waterproof the unit sufficiently to that level (IPX7 is more of a way of saying it is ok in the rain).

I say ‘fake’ as it is misleading to many as they see the words WATERPROOF and think… cool… i’ll swim with it. but in doing so are risking damage that is not covered under warranty (depending on how they swim with it and how lucky they are, the IXP7 level means that some units have not leaked, which makes things even more misleading).

You are absolutely right. I haven’t read the manual in a couple of years but I recalled (incorrectly) that they had said water resistant.

Sorry for the misinformation.

Another huge benefit of the T6c is the ability to swim with it, the long battery life, the 2 year warranty, and a user replaceable battery so you are not without your watch for weeks at a time.
