Latest In Ukraine War

Link?

This sounds like AIP which has some drawbacks IIRC

Looking for the link, had to run down to the ER.

Took a minute but all I can find is an unsourced and challenged thread about it here. Point of posting it was to ask the collective if this sounds accurate. I suspect not entirely.

More reputable source describing what I believe is the same class vessel:

Do you see an quadcopter carrying an explosive the same as a missile?

Continuing the discussion that I started without too much seriousness.
The quadcopter would be a bomber, without a pilot, if it was then directed back to base and continued on further missions and the explosive if dropped would be a bomb. Did the underwater drone explode or did it launch or plant an explosive much like a marine mammal would do with a limpet mine? If the drone were kamikaze- like and it exploded then it would be more like a torpedo than a porpoise.

A new, very close-up look at the hell that is Ukraine’s front line, ‘2000 Meters to Andriivka’.

Some are calling this the best combat film ever made.

Trailer here.

Full documentary (for free) here.

I don’t think anybody takes Trump’s/US’s push for peace seriously any more.

The main point was the absolutely stunning number of dead Russians

Yes, and that is just an estimate.

Assuming that’s combat losses, the US has either only once or never lost that many troops in a war.

291k Americans died in ww2 battles. If it includes all wartime deaths, the US has only lost more soldiers in ww2 and the civil war - for a couple feet in Ukraine.

The UK Ministry of Defence estimates 1.1 million Russian dead and wounded through November. Russian casualties exceed 1.1m since invasion says Britain

As Russia’s war grinds on, its society is fraying _ WaPo

Some interesting first hand reporting on Russians who support the war efforts and why. But not everyone is happy.

Judging by the Reddit videos many if not a majority have been taken out be FPV drones or drone dropped grenades, which I don’t think anyone predicted prior to the start of this war.

Great article, thanks.

The blanket oppression of the USSR is back in full force. It is amusing how pictures of psychopath Lenin still hang in the photos.

In mid-January, the Ukraine war will have lasted longer than the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 (and ending with the fall of Berlin).

And at the rate they’re going they’ll be in Kyiv in just a couple of decades.

at the current casualty rate Putin won’t last that long or have troops to continue.

Agreed, that was a great read. What I found most surprising was the civilian volunteers needing to supply the troops with basics like netting and food. That’s a horrible sign regarding how poorly the troops are equipped and supplied.

Haven’t you ever seen the civilian volunteer drives in the US to supply basics to our own troops?

Like combat netting, no.

Actually, you’ve only scratched the surface.

Russian troops are horrendously equipped, much of their “issued” gear is worthless, so soldiers are forced to pay for their own armor, their own helmets, their own boots, their own clothing, and lots more. They are underfed, they have only the worst water to drink, it is all just unbelievable. That is why more than a million of them are dead or maimed.

Here is just a taste of the insanity.
