I would think that there is a solid chance that some of the younger usat talent will qualify
like wetteland has done 6 world tri races including 2 top 10 world cups and run a 9.36 for 3k and 16.21 5 k this year with triathlon training thats not to shappy for a 2004 and a pretty decent swim.
i forgot to add started triathlon end of 2023 from what i can see and I have heard
If your assessment is correct (I actually think the men will be fine and it’s the W the US has to figure out), that then will put even more pressure on Knibb and Spivey. Although we don’t know Knibb’s race choices over the next few years, by simply moving to IM racing, we can get a general idea of what her motivation/desires are. Which sorta in a weird way I could see the standoff she had with T100 sorta turning into how she’s going to treat itu/US federation demands. Regardless of who is going to be stronger, US needs everyone “all in” in order to win a home medal, that’s sorta the reality. So US and Knibb may be facing a standoff where it likes, if Knibb doesn’t want to fall in line, then it may just be a “cool, good luck with IM and rest of your career”. A half invested Knibb isn’t going to help the US, especially if your assessment that the women have to be the strength of a team. Knibb may see that and say why bother, and not be wrong.
The chances of her AQ’ing and being able to set her own schedule at this point are likely 10% or less. So she’s going to have to play ball with the federation and at this point in her career, is that something she wants to do, or is being her own boss her jam at this point in her career (2 time medalist already).
Thinking that the US men are at medal level currently is absolutely delusional. I understand a lot of the people in here are american, but some objectivity would help. Not even in the same postcode currently.
1st off- no where did I say the US men are at medal level…..so maybe some reading comprehension on your part would help in the convesation. I replied to AJAX’s MTR US comment, that I think there is more certainity with the current US men then there are with the US women’s crop of athletes. The women are more individual talented iwthin the sport overall than the men, but there are too many question marks with many of those top women. Calling in my objectivity you might be the 1st that’s ever said that, so thumbs up, guy. Learn to fucking read before you call out someone for being delusional.
I’m going to call it right now, Reese Vannerson will be picked to make the team even though I don’t think he finishes among the top 2 ranked US athletes. I think he’s too raw for the olympic individual swim still, but for a super sprint he is going to be able to hold his own. The US may not even get anyone AQ’d and so I think they will pick the team with MTR as their medal opportunity.
Do they scrape any multisport optiom or was Duathlon replacing triathlon when no swim venue is available?
interesting fact- at precious CW triathlon events they have removed the lap out rule in the individual event on the bike for several of their tri events over the past few years when it was raced.
Think you’re being a little unkind. They have 4 men in the top 40 of the rankings. And Reed and Vannerson will surely improve given they’re only 21/20yo.
I’m sorry how does “men will be fine” mean there is certainty vs their performance level?
Your blurb makes 0 sense. The weak link of the US MTR is the men, as usual. In the women you can find multiple higher level candidates, whilst the men are miles away from the top.
But hey, if you need to get so salty to lose your temper here and start calling me names in private…
Can someone help me understand why they can’t put the triathlon anywhere else inside the country? India is huge! They must have somewhere, likewise Glasgow, hard to believe they can’t find somewhere in Scotland to host it.
Top 40 is a pretty low bar, also by that standard, GB has 5 in the top 30 (without Yee). And none of them is top notch. Australia has got 4 in the top 40. None of the americans has even a top 10 in a WTCS, apart from the Weihai fluke where there was a debatable start list, in a post olympic year.
I think in Glasgow the problem is money, not location. They have the location, they did the Commie games already and also ETU champs previously in Strathclyde.
I called you a fanboy cus your reading compression sucks ass. The men are probably going to have less questions to answer than the women will. The US’s best women aren’t even assured to race itu for US. The Men’s only question is Pearson. The men also likely have quicker developed athletes who can race in LA than the women likely do imo. I think Vannerson is going to develop in the next few years to be really solid at MTR while working the swim development for the 1500m individual swim needs. The women have higher bar but way too many questions to answer vs the US men.
Mercifully at least we can be sure they’ll get an MTR start. I’d have thought the chances of the USA getting 3+3 qualified is well under evens. Only 2 nations managed 3+3 in Paris iirc (FRA and DEU). Probably those two again plus GBR.
Now you’re changing your version, after editing your posts multiple times.
I don’t understand how the US best women are not assured to race WT (not ITU anymore) for the US, considering they kept racing short course despite they could’ve just moved on. And on top of that you have Gwen and Gina Sereno. All better than any second US man currently.
It’s quite a punt, 3 years away predicting the development trajectory of such young athletes. Hell I was wrong about my own country seeing how fast Crociani has become a beast, I had 0 expectations on him. But by this comparison, I can say De Nigro has as many chances to be a top 10 contender and bring Italy to the podium in the MTR as a Vannerson or Reed have. Complete finger in the air.
mate I’ve not changed my version at all. GJ is likely not going to be a viable MTR pick in 2.5 years. Knibb who is likely the best also has an IM career she is focusing on and thus her itu strength is only going to get less and less….sorry if you don’t understand specialization. Spivey is probably the one who wants to do it the most since this will literally be in her backyard and I think where she did some beach life guarding at. So the federation has those variables to deal with for the women.
The men have pearson as big question mark, and I think their development guys are a bit ahead of the women- why I think Vannerson will get picked for the MTR specifically. Pearson is probably the biggest enigma in the sport. Dude can be in top level shape and finish top 5 or 5 from last, it’s the damndest thing.
US being home Olympics better figure out a way to get full 6 spots to max their ability to pick and choose. Anything less will be “embarrassing” as host nation.
