Well this far out , they are subject to change.
I notice Yee is already gone
Unless I am blind
Assure you Yee was there before supper!
Yee def not on the current list. GTB is though.
Good to see it, hope GTB is going to stick around.
This weekend I went to an USAT junior draft legal race series that also had a national development pro race, recruiting some guys and gals for my uni. 5am and I keep hearing this British accent giving coaching advice. It was none other than Jodie Stimpson. She’s helping coach a junior team in Florida, said this will be her last year of her pro career beforing going into full time coaching.
Race was in Pittsburgh area, in the U25 national development race after day 1 of 2 races (combined time will be overall winner) KZ’s development squad of athletes is leading both races.
She is working with Sara in Florida. My wife was a massive fan. Such an enthusiastic positive person. She will be a huge coaching asset.
Kudos to Sara, her junior squad “SLAP” (swim like a pro) is putting out some really good results in a very short time being on the junior draft legal circuit.
i have no idea if yee was ever on the start list, but what is for sure the person that does the entry lists for the uk has a special kind of humour. no other nation comes even remotly close to f.ck around with entry lists as this person does.
I assure you that Yee (currently he’s ranked #7) WAS on the list (which I linked above - there were only 50 on both men’s and women’s) when I accessed it: on the day of publication (Tuesday before 30 days before the day of competition - see below). But is this automatic, based on rankings? @SheridanTris do you know?
27. APPENDIX E: WORLD TRIATHLON GENERAL QUALIFICATION RULES AND PROCEDURES
2.3. Start list will be created the first Tuesday immediately prior before 30 days before the event, . . . a.) All athletes entered in the waiting list will be sorted as follows: (i) First by World Triathlon Ranking, or the priority indicated in the Qualification Criteria, Appendix T applies;
(ii) Then Athletes without World Triathlon Ranking points. . . .
b.) The number of athletes equal to the size of the start list minus five will be moved to the start list, . . . National Federation quota da da da
You need to understand the way that the rules work. All NGBs do it. You nominate your athletes to be on the start line. The provisional list is declared and then you have a small window to remove an athlete and replace them with another athlete. This has to be done before the wait list athletes are eligible to be substituted in.
I don’t think anyone can be criticised for playing the system to your advantage, especially when the Olympic window is closed.
Was Yee replaced by Connor Bentley?
Both start lists aren’t full again. Waitlist not updated this week yet.
I always thought it was automatic based on whether the athlete OR NF “nominated” you (technically the athlete would inform NF race intentions and only the NF can “nominate” for race entries). If the NF wants to auto nominate the athlete’s spot with or without the athlete’s acknowledge would be up to the individual federation. I *believe the policy/philosophy within USAT for example is for the athlete to nominate to USAT to put them in the race, so if Knibb or GJ or Spivey doesn’t nominate, USAT doesn’t auto select them for initial list. Other federations can obviously behave as needed within the rules.
So the athlete can’t self nominate themselves for race entry, they can only ask the federation to put them in the que. But I don’t think there is a policy against NF “nominating” athletes who knowingly are not going to race to then use for whatever subsitution they want to use. The only complication becomes then how to properly roll off a start list without being NF penalized (if they aren’t then subbed out in the initial sub period). But if they are nominating Yee knowing 100% they are subbing him out for someone else, there isn’t much issue.
Yes, sorry. I failed to include the previous section to my 2.3 quote.
2.2 says “National Federations may include athletes in the waiting list at any moment;” and waiting lists are created before the start lists are filled.
“Including in the waiting list” aka ‘nominating’.
Then the start lists are first filled from the ‘waiting list’ (50), then 'invitations, then topped up from waiting list, to 55 for WTCS.
For those with the inclination (warning: short gear required) all in Appendix E (p153 of 215 of 2025 edition of Rules).
There is no wait list for Hamburg at the moment because the race quota isn’t full.
Does that mean that as long as all the other rules are met e.g. federation maximum numbers etc. that federations can nominate and the athlete goes straight onto the start list once the window is open?
The Waiting List (for all events) is dated 6th June (ie has not been updated since Hamburg start list created and filled). I’m sure there will be athletes on the list when published.
The start lists are showing as 56 and 55 athletes - full?
Pretty sure Yee was replaced by Bentley
there is a difference to use the system to your advantage and just wasting time.
I think there have been threads on here which explore the various wheezes.
If sufficiently interested, suggest you find someone who knows how this works in practice as well as theory.
But before sitting down to a couple of pints with them, read the Appendix carefully.
Whose time is being wasted?
I would assume given that i can point out who in my opnion tends to waste time could indicate that i have looked into this, and i have and iam coaching athltes that enter those races . so while iam certainly not the expert expert on this as it is not my job to enter atheltes i have a solid level how it works.
for instance twice last month they entered a pregnant athlete, and i could have told you on tuesday what will happen by friday ( nothing athelte not used as a placeholder and athlete just disappears from list) with a rather high degree of certainty as there was no need for that athelte
its totally fine that belgium used claire micheal as a placeholder for another athelte for hamburg.
the time is being wasted for the person mainintng the race list and other athletes who like to have certainty to get into races asap to plan the training and to book potentially cheaper flights.
You can’t blame federations for looking after their own interests. The rules are stupid and need changing.
