Is this proper turtling?

Just got my first aero helmet (finally found one that I didn’t want to tear off my head after 2 seconds in the shop). So now I’m faced with the whole turtling issue. Check out the video – I only turtle in the SECOND HALF of the video, so don’t watch the first 5 seconds and tell me I’m way off.

It’s not nearly as comfy as just sitting with my head up. It feels like I’m having to tighten the muscles between my shoulders, and that it could get annoying in a hurry.

Your saddle is too high (seriously).

Your saddle is too high (seriously).

Maybe his cranks are too long (seriously).

I want to see what happens if somebody opens the french doors?

Your saddle is too high (seriously).

Yep…

Are you wearing ladies cycling shorts?

Any ladies care to post similar pix?

No its not turtling.

Your seat is too high.

Might want to put Not Safe For Work (NSFW) in the title.

Wow, all these replies and the only useful tidbit I get is “no it’s not turtling.”

Not interested in your fit comments. My leg angle is 148 degrees, well within FIST, and my foot angle is self selected. If you don’t like my bare torso or my underoos, then get lost.

Anyone else got any clever comments?

Hey, you asked for it.
That music sucked (and I do like house/techno whatever you want to call it).

Something about a scared turtle popped to mind, but I’ll keep it to myself…

Nick, your loud soundtrack just echoed through my office so I’m blacklisting you!

Well, basically your head dropped and nothing else moved, so YES you turtled. The problem with the video is that your aero helmet actually hides the view. When you turtle, your shoulder blades become visible protruding from your back. Couldn’t see that due to the helmet…but the helmet did make a great interface with your back.

And overall your position looks awesome! Your seat is NOT too high by my tastes.

Am I the only one who can’t read/hear the phrase “turtling” without snickering?

“I got a turtle head pokin’ out!” Every time. Without fail.

Are you saying that when you turtle, your shoulders are supposed to stick up? Because that is what’s happening here – you can see it a little bit on the shoulder nearer to camera.

And @timboricki, if you don’t like that track, I have plenty to choose from: http://www.amazon.com/Haptic-Feedback/dp/B002WUZ6FA

Yes, the shoulder blades pop right up. Actually, they are probably fixed in space to the shoulders->humerus->elbow. It’s your spine that actually drops to reveal the shoulders when you turtle.

(wait, ignore this response because you are blacklisted!!!)

then get lost.

you’re wearing an aero helmet on a trainer and then make a video for the whole world to see and then you get pissy because you don’t like our comments.
When you hang your johnson out in the wind you should expect it.

Apologies for the loud music. Next time I will put an AWESOME MUSIC warning label.

Thanks for the legit response. Not sure if I like the turtling well enough to do it in a race. I’m worried it might make me all tensed up for the run. But I have a sprint on Sunday (first of the season!), so I can try it out then perhaps.

What helmet is it?

Ground-hoggin!

Do they sell men’s shorts at the store where you shop?

Also, isn’t that the music the dudette in Silence of the Lambs was playing when he stuffed his nuts between his legs and made a vag? KILLER soundtrack.
