Ironman Flordia Entry question

How fast does it fill up?

We have about 7 people from our group hoping to gain entry, is this possible?

Edit- We all plan on being at our computers when registration opens

Probably about 20 -30 minutes
.

For the past 2 years it’s been more like 5+ hours
.

ok two answers 20-30 minutes and five hours …whats up with that?

Do you want them to get in or do you want them to cry because they waiting a couple of hours and it was sold out? If I wanted in I would be on the computer right when it went online.

You’ll have no problem getting in.

It’s possible for all 7 of you all to gain entry if you register when it opens. The reasons why in the past it sold out so quickly (i.e., 4 years ago it was 7 minutes) were because IMAZ was at a different time and IMCoz did not exist. Search the forum, it closed 5+ hours last year.

I did the race in 2009 and 2010. I got the slot online for the 2009 race in 2008. I signed up onsite for the 2010 race in 2009. I have a bunch of friends doing the race this week. If the past is any indication for the future, you are safe if you register within the first hour.

For the 2009 race, when my wife signed up, it was still open late in the afternoon after online registration opened. For this years race, I believe online registration closed out super fast.

Remember it opens at noon not 9am so even it was open at 3-4 thats only a couple of hours.

it’s never filled in 20-30 minutes.

and races have been taking a little longer to fill lately. With the exception of NYC IM and Vineman 70.3

How long did Lake Placid take to fill? That’s probably a good gauge.

Just have everyone ready to go when it opens. If people think they can wait an hour or so, they might get screwed.

You belief is wrong

4 post on the below page from people who were following it LAST YEAR for this year’s race. The thread is from LAST YEAR when folks were monitoring it as it was happening. If you scroll down further on the page and look at the post by bezbit, you will see that it closed in 7 1/2 hours.

You are wrong about this. 4 years ago when I wanted to sign up for IMFL, I wrote WTC and asked how long it took to close out in the prior year, they told me 7 minutes. Lots have changed since … like the existence of IMCoz and IMAZ moving from spring to fall.

The 2011 race sold out in about 7 1/2 hours.

how was IMNYC a record for sell out in 8 (or 11 minutes depending on what you read) if IMFl sold out in 7 minutes.

Marc Roy if you are reading this perhaps you can provide some info on what has happened for the past two years.

Did you even read my post? It sold out in 7 minutes for a race 4 years ago when there were less races available. If you wanted to do a WTC Ironman in the fall 4-5 years ago, your only choice was IMFL. Today you have IMAZ and IMCoz in the fall and a bunch of other new ones available year round that weren’t there before.

The 2011 race took 7 1/2 hours.

I read your post. You must not have understood mine. IMNYC sold out in 8 (or 11) minutes this year and that was record time for an IM to sell out (nobody cares about what other races were around… this is a record for one race to sell out, independent of anything else). So… how is that possible if IM Fl sold out in 7 minutes before that?

BTW, saying ‘did you read my post’ is dumb. A much better question/statement would be to the persons understanding of your post. You are assuming that what you wrote is clear to everyone. Which is was to me. But apparently mine was not clear to you.

A. my bad  caffeine high

B. The 8 minutes IMNYC that you referenced was not a record time for an IM to sell out. I’m not sure where you got that info from. Back in the days when IMFL sold out in 7 minutes, IMLP didn’t event make it online. All of the slots were taken from folks standing in line on site. I know this because I was one of the people that went online at noon to take a slot and got a message at exactly noon that said something to the effect “sorry sold out on site.” If you use that criteria, the record is zero minutes

EDIT: my source for the 7 minutes was a direct email from WTC answering my inquery. If that is wrong then blame WTC for bad info

I know about IMLP. I was one of the ones who went up to sign up ‘against my better judgement’ but was happy I did when it didn’t go online.

I’ll look for the press release where WTC said it was a record this year.

Back in the days, IMFL was quite popular and sold out quite quickly. I was debating whether to come on site to volunteer, so I emailed them. They said 7 minutes.
