Intriguing: 70.3 Worlds 2027 in California?

I have no idea, my “insider” at IM left in December but maybe the folks at Zoot know more and I’ll see them next week.

Did your insider get their ass fired for leaking stuff via you to ST haha ? Of was that just a master plan to pre leak news via ST in the bowels of the forum . Nothing I could find either in St. George Town Council meetings.

LOL! No she just was sort of disillusioned with where the company was heading and moved on to another opportunity. One of our Team Zoot Captains did recently take a job with IM, I’ll have to see if she has heard anything.

I have heard exactly diddly squat about where 70.3 Worlds will be.

Maybe they are trying to secure permits to make it happen in Caracaz or Kharg Island if the Marines are in the way in California (OK OK pink font). I’ll just go for another long XC ski since I don’t know what I am training for relative to tri planning. Started XC ski on Dec 31 due to a bad bout of shingles, and currently at 880km for the season. There is shot of getting to 1000km before all the snow melts around here. Then I can figure out what urgency or not there is to get into running / tri shape for July

Wondering if the fall back plan is to take an existing 70.3 and just add the World Championship to it.

This video implies nice 2027

Wow. So Nice is the new Kona for 70.3. I volunteered at the IMWC last year, had a great time, very fun place for families and a truly challenging course.

That would be just fine by me!

Possible mistake/typo?

Wouldn’t even call it a typo. Think it’s taking this year’s 70.3 Worlds logo and adding the 2027 / 2028 stuff to it.

ai slop if anything but the + 2027/2028 looks deliberate.

I tend to agree the “+” lends me to that conclusion however much I don’t want it to be true bc I was really hoping for a USA location (or NA) I could drive to

I am in the same boat as you. I really enjoyed the rotation of the 70.3 WC as it gave me a chance to race other venues I normally wouldn’t. I did 70.3WC when it was in Nice back in 2019. But I really do not have any desire to go back.

Ironman seems to be good at wearing out their welcome. Kona in the COVID era, St. George, now Nice?

I read it as they signed a 3 year contract for the title sponsorship so 2026, 2027 and 2028.

I suggest that you’ve inferred that but the video does not imply it.
@ironmandad offers a reasonable take on the PF&H announcement that, after the undoubted success of Marbella, they’re extending their support of the 70.3 World Champs beyond Nice in 2026, to whichever venues are selected for 2027 and 2028 (and we know Nice for 2028).

IRONMAN have moved the 70.3 World Champs around the world for over a decade now and I’d be super-surprised (and dismayed) if that stops.
Nice is a great venue with a long triathlon tradition. The volte face wrt alternating the IMWC between Kona and Nice to give women their own day required some deft contractural footwork, which is why both 2026 and 2028 70.3WC are locked in there (option on 2030).

The ‘triathlon mass’ of the USA has a gravitational effect which I expect to see realised in 2027. Clearly IRONMAN are struggling with final resolution: there’s a chance that Nice is the fallback for 2027 (and looking at Nice’s event calendar there’s nothing showing which would be in competition in mid September).

The delay in such announcement brings to mind the delays and changes seen in the gestation of the T100 tour races, dates and venues. I assume the last thing IRONMAN want to generate is announcement and then disorder. The PTO can veer and haul for 20+20 athletes: IM70.3WC is a beast orders of magnitude larger.

Yeah me too.

Google Gemini is saying hotel blocks are being fenced off in Sep 2027 in Oceanside for what that is worth. Could have just been someone from Ironman training Gemini with fake data. I can’t get out to Sep 2027 on Expedia to verify that reality or not.

To what end? Ironman certainly likes surprises but to engineer something like this is extremely unlikely.
