I am looking for some credible total elevation reports on the 70.3 course for Mont Tremblant. as anyone replying to this thread may know google’s first page shows elevation profiles ranging from 1300 feet to 4000, ANYONE have some real data that is credible and not your first garmin/strava test ever etc?
I raced last years 70.3 and measured 622m vertical gain on my SRM head unit. It’s really not that difficult.
After looking at a ton (ok, 10-20) of race files on Strava I came to the conclusion that it was around 3000 feet.
This is as real as the data you will get: Tremblant 70.3 2013, Tremblant 140.6 2013, Tremblant 70.3 2104
All courses are identical, so I don’t know why Garmin keeps coming up with different numbers…must be based on triangulation with satelites and accumulated errors rolling up…I think consensus is somewhere between 950-1000m
2013 70.3: 963M

2013 140.6: 2043M

You know that you can’t compare elevation to the regular Tremblant 70.3 course, since the WC is eliminating the easy (aka flat) part of the course for 2 loops of the hillier section. Thanks WTC!!

For the run course yes, I assume the OP was asking about the bike course.

I wasn’t aware of this change. I just checked my IMMT 70.3 2013 Garmin map against the official run course from Ironman.com and they look the same to me, but maybe I am missing something. Can you please elaborate on this?
Thanks,
Doru
Here is the power file and an article from my athlete Leon Griffin from his recent race at Mt. Tremblant 70.3

Looks to be 4255ft after I have gone through and tried Elevation Correction of the file with numerous websites.

This is what is linked from the Ironman page. (http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/events/americas/ironman-70.3/world-championship/athletes/course.aspx)
Both the 70.3 and full IM course has a 5K out/back section on the rail trail, which is nice and flat. For the WC course, athletes run from the village out to the rail trail (the hillier section) and then run back to the village to do it all over again. This will definitely make the runs times slower than the June 70.3 course (unless you run faster on hills!). I’m guessing the move is to be more spectator friendly and get athletes to pass through the heart of the village 2x, which is what they do in the full IM. I’d say it is a good change, but a tougher course, and likely an overall good idea for a WC race!!

Thanks. Need to work on my reading comprehension, as when I saw 2 loops I assumed that drluke12 was referring to the full IM running course …
Got it. Thanks for the explanation.
Thanks for that link; that will be helpful. Coming from a flatland area, I’m not sure just how hard I’ll find the course. As a very light rider, I should be a decent climber in theory, but I don’t have a lot of hill experience. Right now I’m doing a lot of hill repeats on the Computrainer.
Last part of that course is the hardest IMO. If you look closely, repeated 1min efforts at 10%!
Best of luck!
Wow I wasn’t aware of anychangefr te regular 70.3 course either, I jut assumed- my bad- but yes I was hoping to get some elevation info on the BIKE course as I will be racing the September 7th race this fall for the world championships. Yet still seems that among this post we are getting mixed results!? Homing in somewhere around 1,000m hills hills and more hills! Can’t wait!

That is nasty. If you look at their elevation profile, they claim 10.6km, 335m gain (>1000 feet) per loop. That doesn’t make sense.
Average slope 5.9%, max 24.4%…I remember steep, but not 24.4%
sorry for the brutal iphone typing in my last post… seems we still haven’t reached a consensus, so for the WC they are modifying the bike course from the recent 70.3? where can I get some info on exactly where these changes come into play, or am I reading it wrong and its the run they are changing?

They are not changing the bike course.
They are changing the run course to two loops.

I’m not sure what 10% would feel like. I wonder how that compares with the notorious Sugarloaf near Clermont? I could program 10% into my Computrainer hill repeats, but I’m not sure how realistic that would be.

It might be that nasty but short climb right out of that aid station at the Beach and Tennis Club to avoid a crossover with the bike. I know that it not used during the 140.6 since everyone is out on the bike longer, whereas the waves at the 70.3 compress the timing.
