I don’t believe that Foley is even starting Nice, and so will gift 500 points right there
at the same winning kona would be worth a lot more than 115 k for blu and if he does IMLP he would certainly not increase his chances of winning kona, who was the last guy that did 4 Ironmans before kona and won ? or even just one really really well and won ( jan 2016 when he did 7.35 in roth ? )

I actually half joking this idea, but is “racing” easier for KB than “training” especially at a B level race like LP will be? Obviously with racing you always have to account for travel demands + the mental fatigue/stress that toeing the line will inherently add. So obviously you have to be sensible, but for an athlete like KB who’s going to be at the front of LP at the 20km mark, could then “govern” his effort because he’s a FP athlete, especially at a race like LP? Of course this is KB, so governing his ability sorta likely isn’t realistic, when he toes the line, you have to accept it’s going to be an “effort”.
I always get a kick out of the women pro from a near decade ago (forgot her name) who would race like double digit IM’s a year, many times back to back and I think in a ST interview she summarized “I race alot so I don’t have to train”…lol. She was basically racing to simply “recover” in between.
I dont understand this notion that Placid is a B level race? There will be roughly 5 of the top 18 ranked athletes racing? That is what a B Level race is? Maybe I have a different opinion of what tier races are

I would say yes. Or maybe I should say that LP is going to have less FP athletes to affect KB’s race plan/strategy that other races would cause him.
There’s only so many A events in our sport simply because there are so many racing options and the actual times “full fields” of top athletes don’t really race all that often. I’m not really trying to argue A/B/C level, I just assumed it was understood only so many top names will be in LP. We are sorta quabbling at that point what the description is, but the fact that 5 of the top 20 are there, is kinda my point.

well consider that most 70.3 US races are C tier. So B tier for LP is on par, looking also at previous years.
P.S. I bet that at least 2 will drop before the start.

No I can’t remember who it was (that name doesn’t ring a bell), she won a few IM’s I think, but I don’t think did much on a WC stage, but she would regularly race double digit races each year (sometimes back to back weekends). If I could remember or look up her name, I’ll try and find it.
I thought according to your outfit there is only one A level race and that is kona lol

Sneaking under the radar, Luis, if he goes well in Frankfurt, can snag a 70.3 (Boise or Zell) and be a contender for a top 5 in the IM Pro Series.
Do you expect him to race Boise then, a week after IMLP, to get a second 70.3 on the board, then?
That’s exactly the point. KB may well think that racing IMLP will have zero adverse effect on how he goes in Kona. And he may be right. Others haven’t followed this multiple full path, but he was always planning 3 plus Kona: and 3 is only one less than 4. KB is a ‘one of/off’ athlete: just because others haven’t gone there . . .
If 5 out of the top 18 start, this will be more or the same than start IM Frankfurt. What’s is your point? 5/18 racing is top quality SOF. But (qv) this may be just be a ‘what is a ‘B’ race’ definition issue.
On tiers, since you don’t think IMLP is a ‘B’ race, I assume it’s an ‘A’ race for you. In which case what tier is Nice and Kona? Are they the same tier?
So are you expecting Marquardt to race, then? I assume, because you have chosen the specific “18” that Jason West is racing to see if he can finish an IRONMAN, after his Texas DNF? Both should add firepower to the swim et seq.
That LP for KB will be less stressful than other A/B/C/whatever definition we at ST want to quabble over “race” he’s done this year if he decides to do it.

You are thinking of Paula Newby-Frasier. She had a stretch where she did 3 Ironmans in a 6 week period, and just recovered between each of them. It was a pretty famous bloc as she won all 3 races to. I believe Roth was in there too.

Does anybody have news on the weather there. Given the massive heatwave in Europe (which must have played a role in the pretty empty streets at Quiberon), i am wondering if they may change the distances. A few years in Nice they changed the marathon to a 30km run, otherwise the authorities threatened to cancel the event. Right now, the forecast is 39 degrees for Sunday….
When it was going to be well over 100 degrees at IM Coeur d’Alene several years ago, they moved the start up by one hour for all the athletes. It was still a torturous day with many DNFs.

Makes eminent sense, given a decision to skip Nice. Suspect they both offer the chance of good points: Boise because it’ll be mostly domestic competition and Zell because of its proximity to the 70.3 World champs in Nice a fortnight later.
Making the perhaps rash assumption of a close to win result in IMLP, a decent race at Zell (I can’t think of a top tier male athlete likely to race there) will see Foley go to Kona very close to Stornes on points and both ahead of Blummenfelt (unless KB risks exhausting himself by trekking over to IMLP).
With Nice being cancelled due to heat, do we know what IM’s policy is if they have to cancel Frankfurt? Would they move the series event (and Regional title) somewhere else (like they did with Arizona →Florida I. 2021) or just skip the points entirely and force them to go to Placid or Kalmar?
The logical alternate options would be Switzerland (next weekend) or Vittoria Gastez (two weeks) if they went that route
