And they’re out of the water. Skipper only 3:30 down, I’d imagine he’s going to be stoked about that.
is there a live tracker?
For those that don’t want to stare at their phone
Yes: normal IRONMAN one.
Men: Front pack of 7 with Guilloux near the front, Moody (fastest runner?) TvB and Ramos, and Phillips at the back.
Then a pack of 6 3:30 back led by Szuch with Skipper, Hill and Hamilton in.
Women: McCaulay going well with a minutes lead over Derron with Siffert dropping back after she was out of the water (with Langridge (who’s going back)) 2 mins clear. Hollioake in #4 riding as fast as Derron and McCaulay.
Thorsten’s estimates:
https://www.trirating.com/ironman-new-zealand-2025-march-1st-seedings/
Men: @119km (2/3rds) front pack down to 5 with Phillips leading (notables TvB and Ramos). Guilloux (+40) and Moody (+50) have dropped off that pack . Skipper and Hill chasing but still more than 3 mins back.
Women: McCaulay gradually extending her lead on Derron and Hollioake (together; 2 mins back at half way and holding it out on the second lap). Siffert @ +3:38 and Langridge now 7 mins back.
Men: @ 153km Skipper has closed to 90 secs of Phillips with Moody (riding for 90 mins on his own btw) in between. All three are low-2:40 capable. Ten athletes within 5 minutes of the lead.
Women: McCaulay with a slightly extended lead over, now, Hollioake who’s just caught Derron (and they are riding together, +2:32 back (@ 137km). Langridge Siffert both >10 mins adrift.
4h07-4h10 is strong out on that course! Anyone know what the bike course record?
Looks like skipper has paced it well, hope he nails that marathon!
Skipper with the fastest bike split 4:10:29, 2:24 down through 11k.
Joe’s got me excited!
Great to see Joe putting together a top performance.
Sam Askey-Doran leading overall AG by about 27 minutes at 13.5km mark on the run. 43 min swim!!
Can anyone post the results please, as usual with Ironman I cant find them.
click on the link up thread someone posted, works fine for me…
Phillips
Skipper
Moody
Joe 3 minutes back and looks like he caught Moody at the end and beat him by 24 seconds
Just under 2;41’s for 1st two and 2;42+ for Moody on the runs
And Mike Phillips wins b/c of his 3:24 lead on Skipper after the swim!!! Swimming matters a little bit, IF you’re really top notch in the B and R.
Louis Richard clearly showed that you can still lose it on the swim. A former pro cyclist he was 23d of the water in 1h 09, 13 minutes behind the 22nd and 22 minutes behind the lead group! He managed to get from 19th to 9th because of his run. He won Embrunman last year but he could go on a camp with Sam Long !
Ended up second overall, winner ran about 40mins faster on the run than him!
In the 50-54 the winner won by around an hour from second place, are gaps like that normal in that age group?
Great runs by all those 3 men with Skipper having to work hardest on the bike (nose in wind) but Moody also had that for the last third having dropped off the front pack.
Starky had the bike record at 4:12 which Skipper broke.
Skipper caught Moody in the last couple of miles. Tactics (plus an FP swim) a key element in Phillips’ win (3 min margin on Skipper) and all three beat Skipper’s 2020 course record of 7:54. Zorgnotti (Tahiti), on debut also went under 7:54, 8 minutes back.
McCauley left T2 with a 6 minute lead on the chasing two.
Derron overcooked the first 1/4 (about 3:02 marathon pace) and caught McCauley putting a gap into Hollioake. But by halfway Hollioake running an even pace (1:33 for the half), had passed McCauley and caught Derron.
Derron seems to have paid for that first 1/4.
McCauley (previously twice an IM NZ winner, back from an op after injury took her out with a DNF at Texas last April) rallied and slowly pulled her back and finished a minute ahead with a negative split marathon (1:40, 1:37).
Finishing #2 (a place better than last year) McCauley was 5 minutes down on Hollioake (3:06 run for 8:51). Sodaro ran 2:50 last year and Adam’s course record is 8:36.
Here I am, reading @Ajax_Bay’s “tweets” and wondering why Julie Derron would be getting gapped on the bike by the venerable Jocelyn - is it that early in the season? Thanks to your link I realized it was Nina… other “notable names” would include Benny Hill (those born in Europe in the 80s and earlier will understand).
Wondering what to make of the results really, especially for Skipper. The times were fast but not a stellar field. Anyway he executed well (if he may say so himself on instagram) and got that Nice slot and a podium. What’s not to like? Now just don’t do stupid shit, Joe.
Gap was like this last year and 2023 too, the top tier guy or last year 2 guys are mid low 9s long time AG kona top 10 type guys or former pros, hard as an adult onset swimmer triathlete with mod bike run skills to get close to that level, last year, 2 guys low mid 9s miles in front, then a big cluster of us 10.02 to 10.30ish type pace.
