If you could get what you want for Christmas (within reason) what would it be?

So, if you could have anything you wanted for Christmas within reason what would you want?

I would want a trip somewhere warm to train for a week, so I’m going to Doug Stern’s Triathlon Training Camp in Curacao.

I guess that’d be a Ren 575 disc. Or maybe some nice integrated aerobars.

My birthday is around Christmas and my extended list is almost exclusively triathlon related.

Thomspon zero-set back post, Shimano TR1 shoes, tires, timex body-link, spinervals, money for a tune-up, etc.

I just celebrated my birthday with the in-laws yesterday and got my Thomspon elite seat-post ala Bikesport as well as a gift certificate to BikeSport. My mother-in-law had a funny story about the seat post. She said she called to inquire about it, and that she talked to you. She said that as soon as she asked about it you got excited and started telling her all the great features. Then finished up with “you’re gonna love it!” Well, she had no idea what you were talking about and paused (also due to the fact that it was for me.) She said that after the pause you came back with a bit of a dejected “…Or maybe not.”

Also, my father-in-law had picked up the post, and my uncle had gotten the gift certificate, both of which were impressed with the store as well as the sweaty, heaving cyclists on the computrainers working out. Both got a kick out of walking into the underground world that is cycling.

I would get my wife and best friend (30 years) a custom bike and tickets to fly to an exotic race .

I decided if I could run a 1/2 mary in a half assed time I’d go ahead and commit to trying a 1/2 IM next year. Yesterday I finished the 1/2 mary in the half assed time of 1:36:22 so I’m ready to sign on the dotted line for the 1/2 IM in lovely Lubbock, Texas.

I got everything I need except maybe a fuel belt. That’s pretty reasonable huh? Bet Santa can come up with one of those surely.

Does it have to be only ONE thing? If so, then I would say a CompuTrainer. I already got a treadmill a few weeks ago, so I think this will have to wait until next year. The year after that is (hopefully) a new bike. I’ve decided that I’m going to become a better cyclist before I allow myself to buy a new bike. I’m still riding a borrowed road bike and although it’s 10+ years old, it’s still a better bike than I deserve to ride.

Dawn

to ride 1 mph faster

thats all!!!

More stories like Tibbs getting 1) a bike and 2) back on track.

A bike fitting at a qualified shop.

As it is, I’ll just have to save my pennies for a bit longer, and hope that Tibbs hangs out and keeps us informed of his progress.

Enough cash to quit work and train full time!!

Id also like to have Jan Sibbersen as a swim coach, Thomas Hellriegel as a bike coach and Tim DeBoom as a run coach…they also should be my training partners too…so what if they have to wait for me

Not asking too much, I think.

Woof!

I would love a endless pool in the basement!

I don’t think that much to ask for, but for some reason my wife just doesn’t see it that way.

An Endless pool in the basement would be AWESOME, but I’d settle for a big can of whoopass on a timer to get me out of bed and on the trainer on Monday mornings. Jeez- some mornings are soooo tough to get going. That’s what I get for staying up 'til 11 last night to watch the finale of “Survivor”. What a waste of sleep.

A nice tri-chick.

2nd choice: ergomo powermeter

I already know what I’m really getting: a new wetsuit!

World peace, or an Aprilia RS250. But I’m not going to get either.

I’ll settle for a set of the new Visiontechs if and when they ever come out.

Ah the holidays…

I’m asking for: Giro Pneumo Helmet (I’m digging the new Red/Blue color scheme) Transition Bag from DeSoto Windproof tights

The list of what I want is pretty small, since I got carried away and have been Santa for myself  and picked up the following: Entry to World’s Toughest Half Ironman Entry to Half Ironman UK Airfare to Half Ironman UK Pearl Izumi SLR shoes (from Steve Larsen’s Wheelworks)

Now I just need to make sure I have $ to get the rest of the christmas presents - doh.

Latest litespeed vortex frame with campy record 9.

The ability to differentiate between a “want” and a “need”. The two seem to have merged about five years ago when I started doing triathlons!

  1. More of the same. (I like my life)

If I could have my brother in law home (he’s in Iraq) for Christmas, I would.

The other stuff (new bike, endless pool, CT, a coach, etc) would be fantastic, but I have what I need.

I have a daughter on the way in April (already have a 2.5yo son), and if I could get selfish for one minute I would simply love it if she would “sleep throughout the night”. Training and chasing a toddler around all day is going to be hard on 3 hour blocks of sleep. If she doesn’t, I’ll adapt. But, man would that be nice. I’ve heard stories of babies that sleep 8-10 hours at a time, so I know they must exist. =)

“within reason” seems to have been ignored by a couple posters. within reason for me would be a 105 equipped road bike. i would find this REALLY hard to justify considering <1 year old mtn bike in the dining room.

Tom D:

why can’t i find bikes that are all one set of components (ex: 2003 giant TCR 1 and 2)? i realize they can be cheaper for manufacturers, but isn’t there a demand for it? AND NOW THE REAL QUESTION… do you see a downside to manufacturers’ specialty parts like brakes, cranks, etc?

the thought just popped in my head. i didn’t set out to steal your thread on purpose!

A gift certificate to a second-hand sporting goods store (Play-it-again-sports?) would do.

Edit: Actually scratch that … .the more “tri-shit” I get, the more I seem to need. When all I had was shoes, a bike, and a membership to the YMCA, everything was simple. Now that I have a HRM, cadence counter, aero bars, books, etc … I can think of 9,876, 282 things that I just “have to have” in order to “train”.

All I really need is time, and hopefully I’ll have years of that.
