I love scotch,..scotch, scotch

How much emphasis do you put on remaining alcohol free during training?

I’m no expert but I’d guess that drinking booze while riding your bike on a public street/highway isn’t very smart.

I gave up the sauce for lent…I guess I feel better.

nice, not on the bike, I’m talking dinner parties, weekend outings, wine tastings, etc.

I have a training habit that will never interfear with my cabo wabo, or is the other way around?

Not much, I just keep it in moderation and don’t wake up feeling crappy and sleep through my morning workouts. I do tend to drink more in the winter, when it’s hot out, I have trouble staying hydrated if I’m drinking much alcohol at all. If you decide to stop drinking your scotch, send it to me!!!

none

Hmph…these days the question is more like how much emphasis do I put on staying training-free during alcohol…

I didn’t use to care, but recently even having one beer or glass of wine at night means I get up 2-3 times in the night to go to the bathroom… so now I think I’m going to have to go alcohol free until IMAZ just so I can get decent sleep. I might drink on my birthday, but I’ll drink early in the afternoon so hopefully by bedtime I’ll be okay.

If you have some good quality scotch then a loss in performance is worth it. If you just downing Kentucky Bourbon because your a typical American with no taste then you should train more.

ahh Mr. Tibbs, Scotch is only Scotch if it is distilled and bottled in Scotland. a little quote for ya:

“Uisge beatha”
The Water of Life

An elderly Scottish gentleman sitting in a pub was asked about the enjoyment of scotch whisky. He replied, “Moderation, aye sir, moderation is the key. 8 or 9 glasses can be a pleasant enough evening, but more than that is liable to degenerate into drinking.”

None.
I might limit my alcohol consumption the day before a big workout (such as long ride starting @ 6AM) but then I might not.
& by that I mean training does not alter my normal consumption of alchohol. I can go a week without drinking but that is not the norm…

Fred.

And Bourbon must be from KY. And there are some mighty tasty bourbons out there…

If you must Glenfiddich 40yr. Single Malt

Chips, salsa and margaritas are three of my four food groups…the fourth is coffee. But then again, I don’t always eat the four food groups!

What about the MacAllan? Strathisla? Bunnahabhain?

Leaving out a lot of good ones by limiting yourself that way…

Laphroaig is my scotch. I love the peatyness. Also a huge fan of Lagavulin but harder to find and at $80 bottle harder to justify.

Now you have two questions that need answering here. I cut back on scotch due to not being made of money. The cheap good stuff is more than $50 a botttle. The nicer stuff is way more.

The other question about cutting back on alcohol, well that is just silly. Something as painfull as training should never be allowed to get in the way of a good glass of gold.

Oh, and ice belongs on your shins, not in your glass. Dont ruin a good scotch by putting it on the rocks. Neat is the only way to go.

I rarely drink scotch, I’m not much for the hard alcohols, but when I do, I like it with one, and only one, ice cube.

John

I’m not a scotch fan, but I never turn down a glass (or bottle) of fine red wine. Given my income, that fortunately doesn’t occur with that much regularity.
