I feel bad for the Eagles

My impression during the three years I lived in Philly is that the fans were very passionate. Sometimes they were really negative, but they did care. I don’t doubt that fans in Minnesota might be nicer, but they probably are also less stoked about their teams. Some of that, I think, comes from the nature of Philly – a high percentage of people who live there also grew up there rooting for Philly teams. I’ve lived in DC and the Denver area where there are tons of people who came to the area from other places. Although the fans can be passionate, at least in football, on the whole they tend to be less committed to the teams. I’ve seen Orioles games where nearly half the crowd was rooting for the Red Sox. No way that would happen in Philly. The Rockies fans are perfectly nice and friendly, but there’s very little passion for the game. They’re just enjoying a beer on a summer day.

Fly eagles fly on the way to victor… Oh wait, on the way to the golf course !!!HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

who pines for the days of Randall Cunningham

Okay Eganski, if you are going to rag on me, I’d appreciate it if you’d at least get your fact straight. I don’t pine for Cunningham nor do I think Jeff Garcia is a good QB. I said Cunningham had a better 2 minute drill than Donovan “can’t manage a clock” McNabb. Am I wrong?

And don’t pretend that Philly fans all love McNabb. What you mean is “Philly fans” love McNabb, with “Philly fan” defined as anyoen who agrees with you. Everyone else isn’t a real fan.

Seriously, you admitted yourself that McNabb has an “accuracy problem.” Why is it that McNabb can make bad mistakes, yet you jump on the defense for not saving his ass by playing their usual best in the league defense?

Tell me what qualities McNabb has that makes him great. We’ve already discussed that he has an accuarcy problem. Poor clock management. Poor on field decision making. Can you name another good QB in the league that has these problems? Or are you going to keep throwing playoff records at me like McNabb won all those games by himself?

You can see this a bit in BarryP’s man-crush on Jeff Garcia

This is fucking nuts. I NEVER SAID I LIKED GARCIA!!!

I SAID, if you would read, that he could have won the game. I was making the point that McNabb isn’t very good and compared him to a MEDIOCRE QB to make my point. If I said shit smelled better than your breath, that doesn’t mean that I love shit so much that I’d want to eat it. Get it???

Good grief!

(in sing-songy voice: barry likes je-eff, barry likes je-eff)

ok.
i guess read your earlier post too quickly.

mcnabb’s not a perfect qb. he goes through his worm-burner phases. but it doesn’t matter what a mediocre qb would have done against phoenix, because w/out mcnabb there’s no way we beat NY.

i will say that mcnabb is streaky.
he’s also kind of a goofball.
but there are only a handful of QBs i’d rather have right now. maybe 4-5 or so?

“I was making the point that McNabb isn’t very good and compared him to a MEDIOCRE QB to make my point.”

Well, let’s compare him to a Hall of Fame QB to see if that point stands up.

Troy Aikman played for 12 seasons, made the Pro Bowl 6 times, threw 165 TDs and 141 INTs, had a completion percentage of 61.5%, and totalled 32,942yds. Took Cowboys to 4 NFC Championships. Won 3 Superbowls.

McNabb played for 10 years, made the Pro Bowl 5 times, threw 194 TDs and only 90 INTs, had a completion percentage of 58.9%, and has totalled 29,320yds. Took Eagles to 5 NFC Championships. Lost in 1 Superbowl.

So for a “not very good” QB, he compares pretty favorably with a Hall of Famer. Keep in mind that Aikman had quite a bit more help than McNabb has had, and played before the parity we see now really took hold.

Agree to disagree ;^)

“…he goes through his worm-burner phases.”

That’s probably my biggest frustration. Slowguy’s stat post shows that he’s not as bad as I made him out. Its just so damn frustrating to watch him come out and destroy a team in the opener, only to watch him play like crap a week or two later.

I’ve always thought that McNabb was a lot like Mike Tyson…really good at looking like God against some teams, only to get pounded on by Buster Douglas.
