Almost identical to they type of stuff I do except I only have time for 3 swims most weeks.
There’s gotta be some hidden message here!

where in the world do you get fourth in your age group for a 24 minute swim? I swam a 22 minute a few years ago which was good enough for seventh in AG and 50 th overall.
I’m a piss poor swimmer but I’ve got to get to these places where 24 minutes has you competing in your AG unless that AG is 70-74 in which case its kicking arse
Doesn’t that take the fun out of winning?
You’re correct. I accidentally doubled it. With that said, real swimmers certainly swim millions of yards/meters per year. 3M is not out of the question at all for a distance swimmer or middle distance swimmer. That’s 60K per week.
and that hidden msg is… where are my nordic tickets!!!

I definitely averaged over 60k a week before college. During college it was probably around 50k but we had some running and it was heavy on weights. I was a mid distance to sprint swimmer. 200 was my event but I would also swim the 100 and 50.
Now, 6 years out off college I average about 4k a week and can swim a 18-19 olympic, but my run sucks.

Well, at the Nationals this year, 24:02 would have got you the 5th fastest swim overall. See you in Alabama next year?

I think this just confirms that triathletes don’t do enough swimming if you look at the top guys bike and run their swim by comparison is poor. Anyhow back to Oz where I can get handed my arse by the superfish, as I’m mainly doing half’s being a slower swimmer has less impact
You and I both know that, but Jackmott seems pretty proud of his fourth place in his AG. I assume there were less that 10 people in his AG at the race.
I know you are online Jackmott, I see you just posted a couple minutes ago…
The Austin Tri is a big race where a lot of local talent shows up to throwdown. I crunched the numbers a while back and if I remember correctly a 24 minute swim for that race was within a standard deviation for the swim times of the top 25 finishers which includes my pathetic 27:16 “outlier” swim time. Jack’s (John?
) swim time was 49/1037 which is the top 5% overall. So if he is only swimming 2k yards per week I’d say that is not too shabby ROI. I was putting in 6-8k a week and lost ~3 minutes to him. A situation which I working hard to remedy.
**Not much stuff between 200-400, **I assume then that stuff between 200 and 400 is good? I actually want to know and what is the advantage of the stuff between 200 and 400 instead of say doing 30 * 100 on 5-10 sec rest
It works out as a sweet spot in terms of balancing aerobic base development, maintaining a slightly faster pace than you could on a straight 2-3K swim, and breaking down a little but not too much in terms of form.
They’re the bread and butter training distances for a lot of 800M/1500M pool swimmers.
tc gets notebook out…
In your notes do not fail to see the “how’s” but to know the “why’s” behind them. Otherwise it’s a load of worthless shit.
