Football (the real game, not the NFL thing :-)

Putting out a catch-all topic in the “new” forum to continue any discussion on the beautiful game and the world’s most popular sport. Miss some of the chatter from this group.

Some current topics,

  • Man U will have a new manager taking over soon; Although w/ Ruud at the helm in the interim they’ve won 3…
  • How will the USMNT do with their new manager? England’s got a new manager as well. Both should be interesting to see what changes.
  • Mbappe’s finally joined Real Madrid… but not quite as effective as expected (yet?), and he’s feuding with the national team coach and threatening not to play for France.
  • Messi and stars were upset in the playoffs by lowly Atlanta…(ok, maybe not a lot of folks following)
  • Jose Mourinho is coaching somewhere in Turkey and complaining that no one watches that league (true - maybe even less than MLS).

Bumping this thread…

USMNT wins a competitive match vs Jamaica, 1-0.

Matt Turner came up big with a PK save.

US plays Jamaica again on Monday for a home game.

New coach has the team looking good and well organized.

Thanks for bumping a footy thread.

LFC looks good.

They do.

Transition to Slot seems to be going well. I think they’re at the top of the table, with Man City hitting a bump, and Arsenal dropping a bit.

During the current break, there’s a whole slew of international games. Will try to catch some of that action.

In case anyone is interested, USMNT vs. Jamaica just kicked off. This second leg is a home game for US…

Friendly or matters?

…. Matters… we have our A team on.

Glad to see the A team won convincingly.

Also glad to see that Man City has lost 2 in a row. Ouch. Go Reds!

until i looked at the USMNT v Jamaica game stats i didn’t know former England manager Steve McLaren was the Jamaica coach.
Would prefer Liverpool to win the league (odd to have only city within 8 points of them after 11 games but half the league 9 or 10 behind on 19 or 18 points)…but by far the most important thing in football this year is for Leeds to win promotion, hopefully without causing me too much stress. Poch’s contribution to this in the international break is to not break or fatigue Aronson.

Anyone have ideas on how to get tickets to a Chelsea match? We are looking to be in London for the May 3, 2025 match against Liverpool.

Just use sites like StubHub etc? Any pointers are appreciated!!

Yeah, I’d like to see somebody else win the EPL other than City.

Good luck to Leeds on promotion!

ATLUTD is not lowly! 5 stripes!!! owned Inter this season. Guzan was first class.

Honestly haven’t followed them (or MLS) that closely. But playoff’s are like a 2nd season, where the really important wins can happen.

Am hearing that Greizmann may be moving to MLS, to play for LAFC.

I was hoping you’d get a reply on this because I’d find it interesting. Seeing an EPL game in person is a bucket list thing for me.

In any event, if you make it to the Chelsea game in May please take pics and post!

Other than a thumbs up recommendation, don’t have any currently helpful tips really.

It was many years ago now, wife and I watched Liverpool v Arsenal while we were on a vacation in London. A tip was to get tix that had seats and not the standing only areas as that’s where hooligans hung out. Don’t know if that advice is still current.

Was in London, and Barcelona on other vacations. It soccer off-seasons (summer) and during summers stadium tours are offered and a chance to check out locker rooms etc. can be pretty cool as a fan.

For sure I will.

My wife has a coworker who has gone to a couple games in London and he is contacting the person that helped him in the past. See how that goes.

We have looked into getting “memberships” etc for the team. I have been told it might be easier to become a “member” of Liverpool and try and get visitor tickets. But we want to sit with the home team; I don’t have a favourite EPL team.

Might just have to pay on the open (resell) market. Might be expensive as we want to take our son as a treat; he is finishing his third year of university and will be starting a couple of internships. So might not be able to travel for awhile.

We bought tickets directly from the Tottenham website

I am so happy that there is not another international break until March.

I’m a big footy fan. Have been for a long time. Used to be Fire season ticket holders. I think MLS has gotten too big and has diluted the talent and quality of play too much. They have Americanized it too much in structure. Unfortunately I doubt it will ever change.

Good to see that you’re still around . I’m rooting for your guys. It appears Slot has the team going in the right direction.

Thanks. Personally I had NO expectations for the team and how they were going to do this season. I just wanted them to be competitive. They had vastly exceeded those expectations.
