So. I have had a Rab Neutrino 600 down jacket for maybe 8 years.
It’s probably had 50-ish weeks of wear, perished at cuffs, had shit spilt on it (including Greece from multiple pizzas I was carrying)
It squashes down, is ridiculously warm and cost 200-ish new
So I wander in to Canada goose for the first time ever, am directed to men’s upstairs (c++ts for assuming I am non binary but none the less) I browsing.
Has to have no fur, not doing that, and I arrive at the only thing I can come close to thinking I’d wear.
How much was it? 995.00
Seriously, on what planet am I getting 800 additional dollars of value from a jacket? Mine has done minus double digits, worked as a blanket, kept two new borns toasty. What’s the value add for 800 more
There is a Canada Goose store in the Copley Place mall in Boston. Was up there 2-3 times during the Christmas holidays last year. Each time it was the only store with a line waiting to get in. Crazy.
I bought my wife a $250 North Face. Looks about the same and kept her plenty warm all winter.
Also in some parts with permanent populations commonly referred to as the Campbell River Christmas Turkey.
Maurice
We call them “sky carp†down here. If you know fish you will get it. But I would not eat one for Christmas let alone any other reason including starving to death.
Fully explained in the LR already. Listen to BLeP (I cannot believe I am writing that). The guy is dumb as shit and has sex with moose, but, the man knows his coats. Seriously. Read: https://forum.slowtwitch.com/...e_price%3F_P6287636/

Fashion advice from someone who wears Crocs?
No.
Just no.
If it makes you feel any better I wasn’t offering fashion advice. I was offering staying warm at a reasonable price advice.
Yes but Chinese, Japanese and people in New York City think they are cool so they must be worth the price.
I went to Pacific Mall in Markham (North East of Toronto) recently. The area is predominantly Chinese. It looked like 90% of ladies and 50%+ guys were wearing one. And it wasn’t even cold (10C) out. Though I suspect a large percentage of these were Chinese knockoffs.
I don’t get it. Unless your hiking through the tundra or dog sledding through northern Canada why do you need something that warm.
One of my concerns with winter jackets is being too warm. I actually really hate going somewhere in the dead of winter, dressing properly and then go inside where its 75 degrees and stuck wearing a sweater, winter coat, flannel shirt etc.
Check out KLIM gear. It’s a snowmobile riders secret company. lol Extremely warm gear and wears like iron. Meant for movement and use and they cater to the sled group although a lot of their other gear is fantastic. Lots of layering options which is the route I usually go. If you want their heavy gear and the latest model be ready to pay but if you are ok with last years models you can get some good deals. I have 3 of their lighter fleece and shell type jackets. Best mid wear coats I can think of if your outside a lot and active.

I mentioned this in the prior thread that I linked to this one. I bought a down parka for winter camping. However, thanks to BLeP, I bought an Eddie Bauer. It is absolutely fantastic! I have used it at least a dozen times in temps ranging from 30 deg to well below zero. Absolutely love it. In addition, we have an outdoor fireplace that we used year-round. So, sitting outside, in the dead of winter, smoking a cigar and drinking bourbon, you need a down parka.
Now, I would never pay the price they are asking for Canada Goose. I cannot fathom their stuff could possibly be better than by Eddie Bauer parka.

But you don’t look nearly as fashionable. You’re so uncouth.
