Just bought my first tri-bike and I am as excited as I can be. I have been plugging along on a 6 or 7 year old Specialized Allez with 105. Worn out 105 mind you. I bought it used 2 years ago. Well Sunday I traded it in on a Specialized Transition Expert with Ultegra. I know this is a low end bike compared to alot of the bike porn we have on here, but I can’t believe the difference! I described it to my wife as my old bike being a plow horse and now I have a thoroughbred.
Well it got me to thinking if I should name my bike. My sister in-law and brother in-law make a big deal out of naming their cars. Always thought it was abit silly, but whatever. However, I am now intrigued by the idea of naming my bike.
So with that in mind, I have been working on a name. It is obviously a female because it will surely need alot of maintenance and will probably be temperamental at inconvenient times. Its bright red and I have a thing for redheads. And finally, she is one smooth ride. So after abit of thought, I have come up with a test name to see if it sticks. For now, she is called Scarlett.
So the question I have is this. Am I crazy for naming my bike and spending alot of time determining her name or is this normal behavior for people in this crazy sport? If I am not looney, what’s the name of your trusty steed?
My 2007 Cervelo Dual is Lucy.
(Named after Lucy Lawless, because she’s one kick-ass Warrior… yes… Princess. I’m a dork, but not dorky enough to call it Xena)
My 1994 Trek 8000 MTB doesn’t have a name, he likes to be mysterious.
My Quintana Roo, Zero Gravity is named “Roo”
My Orbea Ora, was named “dOra”, but it turned into
My Orbea Ordu, which was named “Princess Bike,” by Lesley, the fiance of Slowtwitch poster gavinnunns.
(“Princess Bike” because I won’t put her on a roof rack or other external bike racke. For good reason. cough)
Cheryl
Oh, and my sister named my Trek commuting bike “Geordi”
