Coffee Shop Injured Reserve

Egad. I didn’t realize so many folks here are walking wounded and ailing.

Wishing you all the best in treatments, recovery and return to health. Barring that, the best in adapting and managing to the conditions as best you can.

Aaaaand I played in a charity tournament today and cracked a rib. I would have put my money on a hammy or groin issue but ground always wins in man vs ground. In the last 8 days I am certainly testing my over 40 limits.

A charity what tournament? Cracked rib has gotta suck.

How far we going back? LOL I had a C-5/6 neck fusion done 15 years ago and still have degenerative discs that cause some soreness and numbness in my forearms, had gallstones last year, that was fun, not.

Yeah, I hear ya!!!

It was a local “goals for hope” soccer tourney. And upon waking this morning I’m more inclined to think it’s muscular than rib, thankfully. But I can’t pull my sock on or use that arm to walk the dog. So…still a “damnit” moment.

Post detached/torn retina laser procedure I developed a cataract that was cleared up in a three minute surgery. My vision has never been clearer; a rare case of better than new after a medical crisis…

5 or so years ago I had a seizure, spent 2 days in total coma, but came out of it well. It was a combination of stress, dehydration, lack of sleep etc. Was on meds for 1 year, then decreased it for 1 year, more decrease for a year and then off completely. Lots of follow ups for the first 2 years, brain wave scan, CT scan whatnot…all well. But it left me with a slight ringing in both ears. It doesn’t really bother me much, now and then it gives me a sharp increase for maybe a second, then returns to normal low intensity.
Those who mentioned acupuncture gave me the idea to try it. Will report back.

Yeah, still working on getting back from those. Left is doing pretty well, the right one is going a bit slower. Luckily I just left my Division 1 college football Athletic Training job and am now working with workers in a factory, so way less lifting demand.

Was signed up to do the other forum in Louisville later in August. Have been out riding and running and any time I push on an interval my heartrate goes through the roof. Normal HR on exertion is about 165 max, it’s been going up to 185/190. It comes down pretty quick, but feels like my heart is coming out of my chest.

Just turned 60 in May and getting an appointment with a doctor is a pain since my last one retired.

Definitely see your doctor. While injuries prevent me from doing triathlon anymore, I continue to exercise daily, maintain a good weight etc. As of April I was doing 90 minute workouts a day. I turned 60 in April. Three days after my birthday I had a heart attack. Note to self: don’t put your blood test (troponin) results for heart damage into AI while you are in the emergency room having a heart attack. AI was telling me that I was having a massive heart attack blah blah blah. Thankfully, my heart catheterization the next day only showed only 20 to 30% narrowing so I avoided having to get a stent. It was kind of funny in that I sent my AI results to my brother from the emergency room and he suggested that maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to be checking AI at that time. God damn AI.

I’d skip the Pasta Party

Yes, my physio does dry needling quite a bit. It was just a poor scheduling scenario where he was booked up all week, then on vacation, and I was scheduled to be away when he returned. So, I tried the kitchen sink approach of seeing massage, acupuncture etc and more or less any treatment method that would help relieve some pain until my next appointment.

My only ongoing injury is a bout of calcific tendinitis in my shoulder. Seemingly happened around November doing a push up challenge. Apparently it is like having a rock in your shoe but in your shoulder joint. Made it difficult to put on a shirt normally and pull my seatbelt on. Couldn’t sleep on my left side and I would wake up in the middle of the night in enough pain I had to take some Naproxen.

PT did lots of shockwave therapy, doc said it could take up to a year to resolve. Fortunately it has finally sort of resolved itself. Only minor pain bench pressing or doing pushups now. Now having to regain the strength in that shoulder. Very annoying slow process.

Was that the slow twitch push up challenge where you start with one push up, then add one every day and see how long you can keep the streak alive?

Or was it the 2000 pushups in the month challenge?

It was a small group from my CrossFit gym. Start at 25 pushups, 25 squats and 25 sit ups and go up by one per day to 100.

At around day 40 I felt a twinge and ignored it. A week later I had to bail on the challenge.

CrossFit strikes again
Luckily, I didn’t herniate my disc there, although I’m sure it was a contributing factor.

Either way, hope you heal up quickly.

I am 54 and still doing 20 hrs/wk of SBR. (Some weeks).

I won a small race this year.

They say grass grows slow on a rolling stone.

I am slower but with no visible decay or injury.

Too much rolling make you dizzy and exhausted though.

Watching my son’s baseball team right now is hurting my eyes and my brain.

Does that count?

Children need to feel loved and supported.

You don’t have to actually watch
