Just setting up a new P5 frame and trying to cable up front and rear derailleurs, the brakes were set up by the shop and I wanted to look at a few fit options before I cabled it up for good.
The issue is that I don’t appear to have any internal cable stops, is it possible that the P5 comes in Di2 only and I received a Di2 frame by accident? I am able to push the housing all the way through to the BB:
My old P5 had stops at the top, It’s hard to see in the Photo above but the holes are realy large……IE the cable with the cable stop or ferrule just slips all the way through to the BB.
I don’t think they’ve updated this to a bb stop. This would be easily confirmed by looking at the bb cable guide. would he surprised if it has built in stops
Yes, the shop installed the brake hose to the right side. Not sure why but I can only guess because it exits on that side at the bottom. I would agree that generally it goes in the middle.
All 3 holes are exactly the same, IE really big, like 5mm. Out of the 2 remaining holes there are no stops what so ever, I can shove the cable all the way down to the BB.
Yes, the middle is intended for the brake. The outer two are for the derailleur. You need to use a 5mm ferrule for it. I’d suggest taking it to the shop if that isn’t the case.
From below, all 3 holes are exactly the same size and I have Zero internal cable routing or ICS or stops of any kind whatsoever. There is no way a ferrule would work at the top.
From the plastic plate at the brake there are two stops at the BB, I can only guess that they are going the way of the P3 (guessing using the same mould for front and down tube?) and eliminating cable stops at the top tube and making you run full housing to the BB.
Either that or for some reason I am missing the ICS system. Note My old P5 from 2012 was exactly as you described.
Yes, what was once a pretty easy job to cable up a P5 (not really different than my soloist) is now a bit of a PITA. Also not really fond of the idea of loose shifter housing rattling around in my frame and how that may affect shift quality.
I guess if it’s a feature of the P2 and P3 with no complaints so far probably not an issue, they still say that the P5 has internal cable management on the site though.
I’m just going to cable it up through the BB stops as I am 99% sure that’s the way it was intended.
FWIW I’m on a p3 now and have housing to the bb guide. Not a concern from a shifting quality perspective. Haven’t had rattle either but I’m sure that is largely depending on housing length.
Yeah the cable is bare from the bb to the exit on the chain stay. The little click in cable guide has a stop in it for me. (There are hydraulic and cabled of these)
