Build up to LA 2028 and World Triathlon ITU Thread

Some short course content!

And reposting this one, this time in the 2028 thread (instead of the 2024 one)

Speaking of which:

The Best Value Bikes Money Can Buy!! Training with the Italians.

Who said short course guys didn’t put great content out?!!! There’s even an Italian masterchef that trains with Max and looks a lot like Lionel Sanders when running (and swimming too).

“From” is doing some lifting, maybe not heavy, and, no, that’s not how international sports works.
I’m not going to list some famous athletes who have raced for a nation they are not from: you will be able to.
I depreciate swapping nations but athletes have, at senior level, maybe 20 years and lives/circumstances change.

Please briefly state your criteria you think should apply for eligibility to race for a country/nation. I’ll offer a framework (delete bullets as necessary)

  • Birth
  • Parent
  • Grandparent (personally I would not include this)
  • Residence (define in years, and I would exclude time at uni, ie with a home base elsewhere)

No it’s not. It’s pretty clear most people recognize your birth nation when they talk about where your “from”. If you want to add complications to it by all means do that to allow movement of representing where your “from”. But it’s clear Jackets is talking about the origin of your nation, that’s who you represent as being “old fashion”. That would be the overwhelming majority way most people would think/assume when talking about representing an nation.

Thanks for get what I was saying, its the weekend, I refuse to have a back and forth over this, I made it pretty clear that I don’t agree with someone who has raced and represented one country, changing what country they then race and represent.

Obviously athletes with different parent nationalities etc should be able to choose which one they represent, but after that, that should be it, no swapping!

Was a matter of time. AD officially “postponed” for a later date.

Gutted, now we have to wait till the end of next month.

There’s Lanzarote world cup soon.

GTB and Sophie Coldwell. Looking forward to that.

GTB and Evans (GBR), and Eim and Lindemann (DEU), have lucked in choosing Lanza rather than Abu Dhabi. Lanza start lists have 56 women and 65 men. Not sure what the set limit is: 65? Waiting lists have not been updated for 10 days, for any events.

Literally just been having a look at the start list, I thought with the Abu Dhabi cancelation, we might get some of the big guns try and get themselves put on this (not sure if thats possible?)

Didn’t see Coldwell on there, Lindemann is, Connix, Bitidos, Cantero some new Dutch athlete called Dijkstra is on there! (Loads of Brits I’ve never heard of)

Edit Coldwell definitely isn’t on that list, unless she’s changed names and nationality!

Ajax sort of answered my question, can federations pull athletes off and add in my scenario?

She is now Sophie Evans

I was half joking when I said that, is she going for LA? Before she got pregnant I thought she was done with oly distance!

Who knows? Evans is in the Britishtriathlon Olympic Podium pool (with GTB, Potter, Waugh and Yee). Not sure of this but think poss they have to put her in there because of pregnancy policy. After BritTri decided (wrongly imo) to favour Waugh for Paris, i assume Evans will reckon 2 years of SC may end in another ‘null points’ result in June 2028. But clearly (from SM) she is training well.
Evans (as Coldwell) raced well in T100 London 2024 (chatted to her support there). She and Waugh have similar strengths so she’ll do well in middle distance.

I will be very surprised if Sophie doesn’t just do the required itu required by her pregnancy leave and then go long.

I agree with you, she should have been the one to go to the Olympics. She was very upset by that, so I cannot imagine she will hang around for a repeat

at this stage you can not replace atheltes but you can enter athletes on the list or waiting list till 48 hours before the race .

the male race is full for Lanza ( 65) female race was not full .

there is plenty of places for china on the 21st of march

I couldn’t find this straight away but here’s the policy aiui:
British Triathlon Olympic (Triathlon) World Class Programme Selection Policy – 2025/2026 athlete year (Page 14 - heavy edit)

"[If] an athlete becomes pregnant . . . [with an agreed training programme pre- and post-partum which] . . . timetables . . the return of the athlete:

  • return to the sport no more than 6 months post childbirth
  • an assessment . . . no later than 9 months post childbirth as to their ongoing medal potential
. . . the athlete’s WCP membership status (and [money]) will be
    protected."

Coldwell was on the top tier for 2024; Phoebe born May 2025, top tier status retained for 2025 and 2026. Who knows: she may slay the T50 competition in the summer.

Very excited to see what the Brit girls can do this year, most of them FP swimmers and monster bikes, could she a shift in dynamics, we’ve just had the era of the uber runners, can we go back to swim bike?

I don’t see that coming Lombardi is good on bike Beaugrand cant be shaken of the bike anymore and tertch got her swim up last year and does not waste bike energy , potter also not a bike monster but you wont shake her. so the best runners will be up there.

while with the males with Hauser and Graf that will be hard for Wilde and yee I would anticipate Hauser to beat those 2 a few times 2026.
