Brand New Kickr Won't Perform Spindown With iphone App

I just purchased the new Kickr (my first one after 12+ years of Computrainer use) and it won’t perform a spindown using the Wahoo iphone app. Instead it just gets stuck on the screen that says “Performing Spindown…” with the little spinning circle that never goes away. I put in a support ticket with Wahoo but they don’t seem to have any particular sense of urgency in terms of responding, so thought I’d check with the world of ST for ideas. I am wondering if the problem may be with the bluetooth connection as I also could not get the Kickr to calibrate using the TrainerRoad iphone app, but I was able to get it to calibrate using both the TrainerRoad and Rouvy PC apps with an ant+ stick. However, other features (i.e. power and speed,) seem to be working fine via bluetooth.

Any thoughts of things to try for a quick fix would be appreciated, as I prefer the convenience of being able to do the spindown directly from my phone rather then a PC app while I wait for it to be my turn to get help from Wahoo.

I’m guessing this is a common issue with the new Kickr because I dealt with the exact same thing and tech support was stupid slow. Here’s how I got it to fix. It took several attempts to do an “advanced spindown” but eventually it worked.

From “Dub” @ Tech Support:
I am sorry you are having this issue. I see you updated the KICKR to firmware version 96.0.2. Using the steps below, please complete an advanced spindown. This will ensure the KICKR is properly calibrated.

  • iOS: Open the Wahoo Fitness app > select saved sensors > KICKR > perform spin down > tap on spin down instructions 5 times > select perform advanced spin down > follow steps to complete advanced spin down.

  • Android: Open the Wahoo Utility app > allow KICKR to connect > tap on KICKR icon 10 times quickly > select perform advanced spin down > follow steps to complete advanced spin down.

Going forward, you will only need to complete the basic spin down (every 2 weeks). Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Dub

hope this helps!

I am not sure if this is coincidence or an important step, but I had all of my issues when using my Tri bike that has a Quarq PM on it. I used a road bike with no PM and magically the advanced spindown worked.

Thank you treyedr! I definitely will give this a try, and in the meantime not hold my breath waiting for a response from Wahoo.
