I’m thinking about putting some on in t1… Should only take 10 sec max… Just curious if anyone else does this?
I have. Doesn’t even need to be in T1, you can have them on the bike, put them on while rolling - takes zero time that way.

I did it as an amatuer for many years, doesn’t take any time, put them on as you are running to your bike. May cost you aerodynamically on the bike though.
Admittedly, my one IM was 11 years ago, so I’m not that plugged in to what goes on today, but I wear cycling gloves on every regular ride, and can’t imagine not wearing gloves for a 112 mile ride. Seems really foolish unless you are a top pro.
I wear gloves for all my rides. Only reason I wear them is for protection if I go down. When I first started really riding a few years ago I didn’t wear them. I went down on a metal bridge and needed stitches which gloves may or may not have prevented but I’m sure it wouldn’t have been worse with gloves on.
Yes. Wore them for my first IM two weeks ago. It was warm and my hands were slipping on my handlebars during training in the heat. I’m MOP/BOP, so time and any aero penalties weren’t an issue. Having a firm grip on the bars was more important.
16 IMs and I’ve never worn them. I don’t see the point, when using aerobars my hands aren’t supporting my weight.
The crashing argument makes sense for mountain biking or cross racing but TT crashes should be really rare. You could use the same argument for knee pads.
Always wear gloves.
Start now or after your crash hand first at 40km/h.
Do you wear helmet just because it is required by wtc?
P.s if you are into gore I can provide pics of tt crash effect without gloves.
Always, and it’s entirely for grip. Even though I’m not really holding on most of the time, when I’m on a good climb or fast descent I want solid contact with the bike. My only problem is that I consistently forget to take them off in T2. I wish I knew what has gone wrong in my brain to install this blindspot.
Cheers!

Go for it! Unless you’re looking at a Kona slot or in cut off danger you have little to lose by taking comfortable transitions. You could even consider changing into bike and run specific gear at that point and you’d only lose a couple minutes, that you may even make up and surpass in that distance. Similar concept… I once ran a reverse tri (run, bike, swim) late in the season. Even though it was short it was so cold my taking the time for warming layers won me my age group. Also like mentioned you could keep them in your pocket and put them on rolling. It’s a long day.
I am chasing a kona spot. Sincerely doubt there would be any noticeable aero penalty. I’d be wearing them for comfort, and grip on descents and climbs

Not noticing it, and it not being there are 2 entirely different things.
There is indeed an aero penalty for wearing gloves.
And it’s far less trivial than you probably think it is.
Castelli Aero Speed gloves. If you dig around on the timetrialing.co.uk forum you can find some guys that have managed to actually eek out a watt or two versus bare skin.
I did a half yesterday and went without. I had to “nose hanky” a couple of times and was wishing I had the terry cloth back-side of the gloves I normally wear, to wipe my face after the blow. I plan to wear gloves for my full next month.
My gloves don’t have straps. Bontrager rxl gel gloves. Do you still think they’d slow me down?

And what about your teeth? Even at 30km/h you can really damage your teeth. What do you use to protect them?
I think most people instinctively use hands to cushion the fall. If you more often land teeth first maybe some double gum box jaw protector would do the job.
I can live with road rash on knees and elbows. Having a wound for 3 months on both hands is really a royal pain in the ass.

And three months? Is that how long it takes road rash (the type of injury gloves would protect from) to heal on you? Wow.
I think most people instinctively use hands to cushion the fall.Don’t do that. On the bike It’s not good for your collarbone.
OK OK I know we aren’t all pros but worth a look here…
