Best/fastest clincher tyre?

Hi
After useing tubular for the last 20 years (conti comps or recently vittorias g2 pro)
Thinking about going to clinchers just for kona as road is super quick
What’s the best/fastest nd RELIABLE clincher tyre these days
Still gp 5000s
Won’t be going tubeless
Thanks.

Turbo Cottons are still competitive if you can get a good deal on them.

Same rolling restiance, worse puncture protection and better grip tan the Gp5000s

I love the Michelin Power TTs. Available in 23 or 25mm. Very fast. Surprisingly durable in my experience (been my race tire of choice for 3 years now).

I ride Continental GP 5000 with latex tubes. I don’t wish to tempt fate but I’ve never had a flat and rode them last year to a 4.54 IM bike split on 210 watts av. literally everything I’ve read indicates they aren’t the fastest but they offer good puncture protection, I figure it’s a good balance.

Though it’s an aero drag chute according to several tests. Below is one (Parcours mag).

The test probably used butyl tubes so would gain ~5-6W in RR drag with latex, but there’s no making up for the aero drag. 30MPH is a fast test speed, but nearly 8W more aero drag than the 5000 at that speed is a lot of drag.

My votes for fastest somewhat reliable/durable tires are

Conti 5000S TR
The new Vittoria Corsa Pro
Michelin Power Cup

If Specialized, would use the new 2Bliss TLR.

I’ve been very happy with the michelin power cup with latex tubes. Very fast. Not quite the balls to risk flats with the tt but have heard good things if your risk tolerance is higher.

I am using the Corsa speed for 2 years now. Never punctured and do 2500 miles with a set of tires. Very fast tires

Sorry to be smartass: I think it’s gp 5000 not gp 5000s.

I can recommend the gp 5000 as many do: they test fast and seem puncture resistant.
Next question is the size: should depend on your rimsize.
Without doubt: latex or TPU: no butyl.

Has anybody heard any rumblings about the timeline for commercial availability of the Corsa Pro Speed that Vingegaard rode in the TdF TT this tear?

This is my setup for sprint, Olympic, and 70.3. GP5k TT on the front, Corsa Speed on the back.

stupid question.
Is the gp5000 tt, which is marked tr, suitable as clincher (with a tube inside)?

not a stupid question. I ask it to a person a lot smarter than me and got a yes

Yes. And some TDF teams this year did just that.

Its not a stupid question because a lot of articles and threads on here would make you believe you couldn’t run a tubeless ready (TLR) tire with a tube in it or on a non TLR clincher wheel. There’s this insinuation going around that clinchers and tubeless are incompatible. Kinda like clinchers and tubulars. To me, and someone will probably tell me I’m wrong, tubeless ready tires are clinchers. But not all clincher tires are tubeless ready.

The Continental Grand Prix 5000 TT TR tire is a tubeless tire, but you can put a tube in it.

However, it would be smarter to use a standard clincher tire because it would weigh less.

tubeless ready tires are clinchers. But not all clincher tires are tubeless ready.

That’s right, and your answer is right. Just muddied a bit by the fact that you with hookless rim you must use tubeless tires, tube or no tube.

Back to the the GP5000TT/Corsa Speed suggestion. I’d left those out in my suggestions given OP’s parameters. But if we’re going to run stuff without any protection, belt I’d just go Veloflex Record! Been fine for me so far in 40K TT.
