I live in Atlanta (Sandy Springs) and have been using the Cobb Aquatic Center for all of my swimming. It’s quite the drive in rush hour traffic. I work in Midtown and wonder if anyone knows of a lap pool close to Midtown or Sandy Springs. I have been to Dynamo, but it costs almost 3 times as much as Cobb Aquatic and their hours suck. Any suggestions?
Sign up for a class at GA Tech and use the olympic pool…
ga tech, concourse (spendy but very nice), several la fitnesses have pools. if you want to pm your email, i can send you some misc reviews on pools/masters programs.
You can join the YMCA on Moores Mill ,then work out in the am before work, or after.
I’d like to use the pool at Tech, but a guy I work with who went to Tech says that you have to be a student or alumni to use it. Is there a way around that?
I already have a gym membership, so joining the Y wouldn’t be too cost effective. My gym has a pool, but it’s a “cess” pool. Nobody uses it unless the toilets are occupied.
Hospital fitness centers. I use the pool at Piedmont Hospital on Peachtree. That would be closer for you.

Just found out MLK is closed for the year.
HEre are some others:
Why is it closed?
i swim at la fitness ($35/month i think). some of their pools are better than others. the one at perimter point isn’t bad (close to sandy springs) but the one in roswell is awesome. best of all, their both open at 5am until like 10 at night.
when i lived in midtown (before the baby), i swam masters at ga tech (since disbanded) and then dynamo, which i know you’ve ruled out. there’s also an la fitness in toco hills which isn’t too far from midtown.
hope this helps.
Apparently it is undergoing renovations. If you can get into Georgia Tech that is a great option.

You would have to sign up for a class
you can join the rainbow trout which i think is very inexpensive; they swim at tech. it’s a gay/lesbian swim group, but i don’t think you have to qualify or anything. not that there’s anything wrong with that. ![]()

MLK Natatorium closed for renovations, but supposed to re-open this January (but for a public facility we all know what THAT means). Too bad…
Even if the local masters don’t workout near your place, they usually have the scoop on local pools.
Seriously check-out LA Fitness. They’ve got clubs all over the city and almost all of them have 4 lane, 25-yard pools. Of the ones I use most of the time (alpharetta, John’s Creek, Cumberland, Roswell and East Cobb), the only place I ever share a lane is at Cumberland (and even there, it’s rare).
For less than $40 per month (no membership contracts, it’s month-to-month) you can’t beat it. The treadmills are good, the weight equipment is good, spin classes are generally not too overcrowded, and you can toss in raquetball and basketball if you’re into it, as well as a sauna and whirlpool.
No, I don’t work for or have any connection to LA, other than my membership; I’ve simply been a happy client for 2+ years.

i swim at the la fitness in toco hills, not a bad pool. prefer the la fitness at northlake. www.swimatlanta.com has pools throughout the city which are pretty nice. emory has a masters team and very nice facilities. dynamo also has more than one pool, fyi.

I live in town and really like the MLK Pool. I realize its closed for renovations, but it is a great choice if it is opening again soon. The charge is $2 per visit, there is never anyone there and they have long hours. It is also very clean - I used to swim there all the time. If you work in Midtown you can get there for a quick lunchtime swim and back to your office without much wasted time in traffic.
