Are white people or minorities more discriminated against?

Trumpster’s discriminate against smart white people, many say.

I found this poll showing that the GOP thinks while people are more discriminated against than minorities. Things like this just make me believe that we are living in two different americas.

Note the flop on R and D for evangelicals vs Mormons and Jewish peoples within the “religious white people” category.

Obviously Muslims fall under the “religious brown people category” so the difference there is kind of predicted. Which is why the “religious white people” flop on discrimination seems interesting to me.

Those are blanket assumptions by the way, I realize plenty of American people of different race are different religions. I’m just going with the stereotypes we operate off of.

My biggest surprise is that R’s say atheists aren’t discriminated against at all?

Which totally conflicts with all other data: only 41% of R’s would vote for the perfect R candidate that’s also an atheist. 69% of Dems would do the same. The only otherwise perfect candidate that would get fewer R votes would be a socialist R candidate. 42% of Rs would vote for a muslim R candidate in 2020.

As a fellow atheist, we aren’t discriminated against at all, but I would argue largely because people don’t generally know who the atheists are.

I think it is further parody of the idiotic ‘feminist math’ term, see the hilarious unesco thread.

Yeaaaaaaah, I saw that thread after I read this thread. My sense of humor is nonexistent at this point, I guess. That didn’t seem funny to me, either. Those jokes are just old and tired and boring, like me

The “joke” itself isn’t funny to them, what is funny is making you accommodate their joke. And that really isn’t funny. I suppose we all have to accommodate at times to have a harmonious forum, but I’m not going to pretend like the joke was actually funny.

Sorry, guess there are too many thoughtful but low IQ people here for you. You are obviously smarter how you talk down your nose to people while saying nothing insightful.

Looks like you are still bitter Jussie.

Matt I like you and the vast majority of people here. If I thought people here - which is to say the company I choose to keep - were “low IQ” that would say more about me than anyone else, wouldn’t it?

Dont make the mistake of thinking you “know” me. I assure you I will give you the same courtesy. Ive
lived in lots of places and been friends with nearly all my neighbors so odds are were you to move next door we’d be friends.

Since you’ve taken the time to get to know what my friends call me (no “e” by the way) did you hear that my son was named National Age Group swimmer of the year? Pretty cool, huh?

Someone needs to go out and take a walk and chill out a little bit. And it’s not ajthomas.

It was a reference to a cheap shot he took in a different thread. He seems still mad on slights I may have subjected him to in the past.

My quip was based on your recent low blow remark in the link below saying I am thoughtful but low IQ… come on, keep up

That is awesome! Congrats to him. Your best posts have been swimming knowledge drops.

haha. it must be an election year. are you getting all riled up about this?

seriously, get a grip. I hope you realize this graph/research is directed to the undecided voter, which you are not.

The ‘feminist math’ thing is funny to me in that way, like ‘conservative religious nutters say the darndest things.’

This is somewhat off track from the OP, but there is such a thing as an effort toward feminism in mathematics, and not solely in the mind of right wing nutters. Of course, it has more to do with opportunity for women in STEM fields, couching of math instruction in ways that engage female students, etc.

That is awesome that such programs exist. Good to know.

I guess what the right wing nutters do is take uplifting and positive things, and then weaponize them, and say they are evil or destroying our wonderful 1950s era values (because, gee, we all know how great america was–for well-off white people–in the 1950s). Just like the nutters have twisted the word, ‘woke’.

As mentioned, you’re reading it wrong. But it’s still messed up that more MAGAts think that white people are discriminated against than MAGAts think black people are discriminated against.

Really,… we don’t know the question… so If since by the … after today, we know there are more words.

Lets say the question was Group experiences a lot more discrimination today, compared to (insert time between 1700 and 1960) in USA

Well now the dems seem to be the ones who are crazy, cause yeah, Whites are a lot more discriminated against today then ever before in this country (again not a measure of solid numbers just there was virtually none in that time frame and now there are programs designed to do that (arguable with good cause). And blacks yeah they are discriminated against now, but definitely not a lot more than in that time frame.

We can simply draw ZERO conclusions from this graphic as the very intentionally left off the whole question.

The graphic is pretty straightforward. The question isn’t listed on the graphic precisely as asked, but it seems to have been:

Just your impression, in the United States today, is there a lot of discrimination against the following groups, or not?” With the groups listed and options for answers being yes, no, or refused to answer.

The graphic doesn’t show any weighting on which groups are perceived as being discriminated against more or less than other groups. It just shows the percent of Reps or Dems who said each group experiences a lot of discrimination.

Question 33 on the questionnaire, which is from 2020.
American-National-Social-Network-Survey-Topline-Questionnaire.pdf (menlosecurity.com)

Report on the total results of the survey.
Socially Distant: How Our Divided Social Networks Explain Our Politics - The Survey Center on American Life (americansurveycenter.org)

Thanks for the dig into the surveys and the link… The long form ( actually a very very long form) article provided meaningful analysis as to what this one graph to one question actually might mean and help in drawing meaningful conclusions about this graph and the many others covered in the survey. As you point out, this survey and another one about religion (embedded in the link) were done as a lead in to the national election in 2020.

The 4 employees of the AEI who authored the report on this survey that was conducted by NORC, University of Chicago, also rely heavily on the Pew Research Center to buttress their findings.

I would suspect they are making preparations for another similar survey to help sort the electors sentiments for this years election of Biden v Trump II.

I was having a conversation with Windy a few years back and he said that he always presumes posts are meant in good nature.

I do the same. But because you didn’t know that, you didn’t know where I was coming from in how I interpret your posts and how I hope to be understood. My fault.

Calling you average IQ is funny because it lands, not because it is true. If it helps, I’ve been called low IQ here many times, probably even by you. To the extent I think nothing of it I hope you can too.

If you care I think there is only one humorless prick here. Sorry, you aren’t him.

This stuff isn’t helpful aside from saying Republicans and Democrats have somewhat different perceptions of how much discrimination different groups experience. As somebody said people are almost living like they are living in different countries.

What if you are a Black Christian? Which is actually quite a lot of people. Are you Black on the graphic or Christian. Asian Christians, my mom’s church has an Asian congregation worshiping right after they do in the same building. Lots of Korean Christians. Black Aethist? The question is kinda vague.

Jewish people in Toronto are quite worried. The police and mayor have been rather slow to say anything about parts of the Palestinian crowd ( distinct from the the pro liberate Palestine crown?) intimidating Jewish people. They actually delivered coffee to the demonstrators who have been blocking the major access road to the primary Jewish community area in Toronto for a few weeks. They didn’t buy the coffee just delivered it. Full disclosure.

I have been quite surprised how lassie fare the authorities and general public have been about Anti Jewish actions. If people want to protest Israel go demonstrate in front of an embassy or in front of a gov’t building

There seems to be rather Marxist approach to all this where people are identified as oppressed or oppressor. Unfortunately Jewish people have now been lumped in with the oppressors.

Ha… on this forum ive been called an asshole, liar, hypocrit, told to fuck off, had my moral compass questioned, etc. But average? Damn, that was a low blow bud.

I doubt I’ve ever called you low IQ. Your knowlegde on swimming is impressive. If I really thought someone here was that stupid I probably wouldn’t interact.

  • They actually delivered coffee to the demonstrators who have been blocking the major access road to the primary Jewish community area in Toronto for a few weeks. They didn’t buy the coffee just delivered it. Full disclosure.*

What the police actually did was prevent another protestor, who had coffee and Tim Hortons donuts from joining the protest and delivered the coffee and donuts themselves instead. Which I thought was a sensible compromise.

Where they were protesting was an altogether different kettle of fish, as it was on a bridge that also leads directly to a predominantly Jewish neighbourhood, which all sides were well aware of. That I would have regarded as an attempt at intimidation. The police have now banned that as a protest site.
