If so, which brand(s) do you wear/recommend and where did you buy them? I am tiring of the hassle of putting in and taking out contact lenses and am considering going with wearing a prescription sport sunglass for biking and running and a prescription goggle for swimming. My big reservation is that I have so much confidence swimming with my aquasphere kaiman’s that I am hesitant to try something new. Any advice/comments appreciated.
Yes, I use prescription goggles - well’ they are off the shelf and come is adjustment levels 1.5, 2.0, etc. I can’t swim without then, they fit like a glove, and been using them for years. $19, I use the tinted ones and always have 1-2 extra pairs laying around.
Look under optical swim goggles.
I saw a dude crossing the finish line last weekend at a local tri and he was still wearing his goggles!!! All I could think of was that his goggles must be prescription.
I have several people in my classes who use the prescription goggles.
If your prescription is simple, as someone else said, they are cheap and easy. They are the same price as the regular goggles and most come in strength from -1 to -9, I did find one place that had them in positive numbers as well.
All the majro manufacturers have more than one type to try.
Go to amazon.com or go to kiefer.com and look for corrective goggles and you will have many options to choose from.
I think many people don’t realize that the corrective goggles are the same price as the normal ones.
My own personal preference is for speedo vanquishers, they seem very accommodative to different face. But as I said, you will need to try them out.
I use aquagoggles.com
Worked well for me but I’ve never had a problem with fit with any other goggle.
I have used these http://www.aquagoggles.com/ for the last two years.
Great quality.
Sable Water Optics has them. They are a great brand, Jordan Rapp and I think Macca both use them:

How do you select the diopter? For example my contacts are -1.75 in one eye and -2.25 in the other.
I am not an optometrist but have worn contacts for years - your best bet if you are going to only wear them for the swim is get -2.00 - you will be a bit off but it should work ok - I have done it that way alot for dive masks.
If you like the Kaiman you will like the Eagle. Aqua Sphere actually makes an optical goggle with the same great vision and fit as the Kaiman. It is called the Eagle goggle and it is an interchangeable lens goggle- you can get diopters from -1 to -6.5 and customize for each eye. The bonus to the Eagle is that it is a silicone goggle- meaning that it will last forever. Best place to get an Eagle and the lenses (diopter lenses sold separately) will be online as it is not widely carried by tri shops or sporting goods stores. Let me know if you have any other questions.
The options get pretty limited once you get up in the -13 and worse range. The time I tried them, the only ones my opthamologist could find to fit my vision specs always leaked horribly, and I ended up going ordinary goggles over contacts in the name of less red eye.
When I bought mine at a shop where all the local swim teams go, the person recommended that I match the prescription of my stronger eye. She said otherwise I’d be asking for a headache because the better eye would have too strong a prescription. I use the Speedo Vanquisher goggle. Nothing special, but it’s worked fine.
Thanks!
I went with 2.00 in the Speedo’s as well. Figured I will give it a shot, always a pain dealing with the contacts or forgetting them at home.

Buy the 2.25 for both eyes. You’re not using them for reading or driving, and it won’t hurt your eyes. You’ll be amazed the first time you sight in open water.
Otherwise buy one pair of 2.25, and one pair of 1.75. You can then take them apart and put them back together as you wish. You’ll then have two pairs of 2.25/1.75.
That is a good idea and I thought about that. Unfortunately for the Speedo’s they only come in increments of .5. So I went with 2.0. If these don’t work out I will look around more and find some that come in the .25 increments and pick up two pair.
the ones from kiefer come in increments of .25. i’ve never had any leaks or discomfort with mine.
Maybe someone can help me out, this is my prescription and I can’t figure out what the dioptres are.
Just returning from an Asia trip where I noticed the optical goggles sold as single lenses for multiple diopter.
If you wanted to look for a goggle with a replaceable nosebridge you’d be able to swap the diopter if you need to match each eye.
TYR has a racing model that I’ve worn but I’m not that blind so I swim mostly in the standard tracer.

Go to Asia for optical goggle HEAVEN…

Or the Aquagoggles linked above let you buy them with different ones for each eye.

Sable goggles do not come in exact prescription. I just went through that with them.
