He has racing IM 70.3 Swansea (1st) 4 weeks ago & Ironman leeds (3rd) 2 weeks ago. Hardly a surprise he is a bit cooked today.
Extraordinary from Hayden. Great to see how much it means to him.
The quality of the field is very different I’d argue. I don’t think his performance is far from his standard.
Noodt gulping that red bull down lol
Sam pipped for 11th by Will Draper sums it up.
Draper outsprints Long for #11
Obviously this is higher FOS. But todays run was far from his run in Swansea. Only have to look at how he normally races vs Jack or Will
Was Hayden racing with an Apple Watch? Not seen that yet from a pro.
ST article up - bravo!
Love to see it. Big up the GBR wildcard boys
Can I complain that they wrote 62 miles of racing?
C’mon, 100km is the name of the brand…
I am trying to think where he would have finished, if the 15 best triathletes in the world would have shown up today ?
somewhere around Trevor Foley I guess ![]()
Again not seen any of the race but had the result spoiled, wasn’t expecting much from Wilde, looking forward to the Yee V Wilde showdown next ITU!
11th place, basically just like today (I guess in a 20 person field it would have been 14/15th). Every world class race always has pretty much the standard results you expect and then of course a few “surprises” both good and bad (DNF’s). Give Long credit in one aspects he just grinds his way to race results, when it could be much easier to just bail on it.
With Wilde winning the first thing that sprung to mind was is he just that good, that much better than everyone else that he can still beat them 90 days out of a horrific accident, or is it perhaps a reflection that athletes are training too much and the bit of time off actually did him good, was a blessing in disguise?
Seen it a few times now, LCB and Kat Mathews both bounced back much stronger after time off from serious injuries?
It’s defintely a good insight. I dont know if it’s just my imagination but I think during covid a certain group sorta took “training hours” to the next level, and the entire sport sorta reacted to that. Obviously it’s probaly more my imagination, but even Knibb did that in the year before Paris. Had a foot fracture/issue, didn’t run for months and then ran the 2nd fastest run split at the test event, easily AQ’ing for the US team.
It didnt do Ali Brownlee any harm either, he was injured more than not (ITU) used to come back and pick up where he left off.
But im going to say no, plenty of athletes are out injured for months and take ages coming back to form (Duffy/GTB) first two that spring to mind pre Paris.
Its possible its a Wilde thing, he is on his day obviously a lot better than everyone else (silver medals in the Olympics dont come easy)
Ah yes AB for most of his career after the achilles injury would clown everyone else in the post race interview telling everyone he only just started back to run training before seemingly every wtcs event, lol. AB was interview gold.
I think it’s pronounced “Noidt”.
Ok I’ll give my thoughts after watching the women race.
Fantastic commentary. Loved that Frodeno returned to Britain being a sweatshop of talent. He’s so fun to listen to. Great camera shots. Half way through I was thinking this is one of the better produced races I’ve ever watched. And then suddenly I was bored before it ended. It might have been the 4hr45 I was on the trainer though, but I couldn’t make it through the men’s race and had to turn on a movie.
Still though, congrats to PTO for a great race. I’m not sure exactly what my issue was. What more can you ask for than LCB to come back and win it like that?
I think the production team really needs to find more stories within the race. After a while it just starts to feel a bit empty.
