2025 Concerts

I appreciate your commitment to the art.

See ya, hon!

I dunno. Reads to me like he’s on the outside looking in but would answer the phone if called.

This was an issue between him and Ed, right? They’re a pretty amiable bunch given their stability and longevity otherwise. I have to assume two strong personalities plus Dave’s substance abuse lit the fuse.

If I recall from 30 years back, I think, at least according to what was reported in media, Dave aspried to be prototypical rockstar - fast cars, hot chicks, etc. Ed seemed to not want attention beyond the music. Stylistically, Dave’s signature style is splash and high hits, ghost notes on the snare.
I think Ed included Heyfoymophandlemama on vitalogy as one signal of a change in sound.

What I recall from the HOF induction, PJ could have included Dave and did not, but I may misrember.

So…tomorrow I plan on asking the Mrs if she wants to go to the Madison Garden show. This was a seriously good show!

Yo la Tengo and Built to Spill last night…for a couple of legacy acts, they both absolutely bring it…still. I went with my now 30 year old kid and getting to share genuine interest in the bands with him is super cool but no mistake, there was a rock show in the building; neither of the bands would ever be accused of mellowing with age. Guitar fury in full estrus and rut…

Tickets just ordered.

Of the 40-50 concerts I’ve seen in my life, this is the only one that I’ve ever ordered tickets to the same show in a another city 2 weeks later.

BTW - we had to lock up our phones for this concert. EVERY CONCERT SHOULD DO THIS!!!

It’s not so much that people on their phones is annoying (I don’t even really care that much…but I’m tall, so I can see over their home movies). It’s that 100% of the fans were 100% engaged with the show. 14,000 horns in the air, 14,000 people clapping on the beat, 14,000 people singing the chorus, 14,000 people clapping at the end of each song.

It really was a much better experience. The only downside is that I have no memories of it recorded.

Side note: logistics felt like the 90s. “I need to go to the bathroom.” “Okay, Mandi is at the merch table expecting us to be at the top of the stairs. Eva went to get ice cream. I’ll wait right here. Come straight back from the bathroom where you’re done!”

No, I wasn’t at the show. Wish I was. I was at the final US show of the Metallica M72 tour. Metallica flew from Denver to the UK for the show. Several people bumped into them in the United lounge - the day before I was in the same lounge!

Farm Aid in Sept

Saw Coldplay this past weekend in Toronto, they were awesome. I think they are back in the US now, I’d highly recommend going if you can. Not sure if they are planning to tour again.

Hoping this wasn’t you.

That man’s poor wife.

Imagine that being how you find out your husband is a Coldplay fan.

10/10.

I read a twitter post today that said every day twitter has a new main character, our job is to not be it.

Achievement Unlocked: Madison Square Garden

Ghost sold out The Garden last night for an absolutely killer show!

Overall it was a 10 hour day. Left the house at 3pm and drove an hour to the train station in New Jersey for a 90 minute ride to NYC. The train lets you out almost directly under Madison Square Garden, right into a giant food court. I had a slice of pizza, which I have no idea if it qualifies as “New York pizza,” but it was pretty good and reasonably priced.

Show was over at 10pm, we got home at 1am.

I saw a clip on Twitter when the singer dedicated the show to Ozzy. I was wondering if this is the show you were at.

How was it?

Yup, same show. In fact, the guy standing next to me and said, “Hey, did you hear Ozzy died today? I wonder if they’re going to say anything about it.” That was about 30 seconds before the clip you saw.

Honestly, out of maybe 40 concerts I’ve been to, this was the best I’d ever seen. Better than Muse. Better than Slipknot, Iron Maiden, or Rob Zombie. Our friends, who’d probably been to well over 100 concerts, said that The Wall was the only thing more impressive.

Everything was amazing, from the lighting, the costumes, the energy, the music, the crowd, effects, etc.

I’ll add that one thing that jumped out was just the wall of sound. The band has two guitars, two keyboards, and at least 3-4 back up vocalists, which really just gives it a big sound (not “loud” but “full”).

I get the full not loud thing. Even as a four piece set Tool has similar acoustics at their shows.

That’s a wildly impressive stage design, I’ll have to check out some of their videos. I’ve listened to a few songs and I just can’t commit to it, maybe you can offer some recommendations.

Glad you had a great time, I know what it’s feels like to have seen the best concert of your life, that’s a great feeling. Great venue too.

Speaking of Tool, I’m trying to figure out how to swing a trip to HI the week before Christmas… first show there since 2011.
