Composure.
Knibb, always needing to show up the roadies. Puts Dumoulin to shame.

Tom didn’t lose any placings in GC that day I don’t think. Still, Taylor doing a Dumoulin and maintaining great run form is impressive.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. It’s my favorite American holiday and I’m currently locked in my man cave with a covid infection. I’m not too symptomatic, but I can’t taste! The wife and kids are heading out to another family who has invited us over the past few years. I’ve requested leftovers, but I think I’ll wait a few days to eat them until I can taste again.
They’re better after a few days anyway. Hope you get over it quick!
Does dropping a Dumoulin refer to good running performance or emergency deuce dropping?
You are asking the smart questions! I guess its both. After seeing Bouhanni go 2:34 for a mary, I’d love to see a well trained Dumoulin do a fully marathon. Or Richie Porte.
Happy Thanksgiving, y’all.
Good to see your sense of humor intact.
Wishing you speedy recovery and lots of serving of Thanksgiving dessert of choice.
Happy Thanksgiving!
@ClayDavis hope work wasn’t too rough.
Haha well we got our Thanksgiving back in October so it all evens out
Friday is actually a PD day for us so while I do still have to go to work, at least it’s a break from unruly teenagers.
Hope everyone south of the border had a good feast and is suitably stuffed. I’m prepping a pork shoulder for the slow cooker right now so I’ll be coming home to some carnitas tomorrow. Hot tip: if any of you happen to come across the St. Bernardus Christmas Ale, it’s excellent.
I saw that at a store earlier today. Ten years ago, I’d have grabbed a 4-pack and drunk one on any winter weekend. Age has not been so kind to my metabolism, and I’m now mostly limited to non-alcoholic beers, with the occasional Guiness (only 130 kcals/ bottle).
I may actually drink more NA beer than actual beer these days too - speaking of Guinness, their 0.0% is (IMO) probably the closest approximation to the real thing I’ve tried. Guinness already being on the lighter end of the spectrum from an ABV standpoint and being a little more substantial in flavour, I think the alcohol doesn’t play as big a role in its flavour profile, but in any case they’ve done a real good job with that particular brew, and if you’re counting calories it’s 60/can.
But this being Friday, it’s my custom to have real beer when I get home from work, and I’ll likely pop one of the aforementioned St. Bernardus while watching a replay of today’s track champions league event. Matt Richardson looked utterly dominant in round one, will be interesting to see whether Lavreysen or Hoogland have an answer this time out.
Peroni 0.0. Best I’ve found.
Never ever thought I’d be extolling the virtues of a near beer. Blasphemy.
Deep fried turkeys for the neighbors yesterday, next to the fire pit, with a glass of decent red- a gateway drug that leads to gluttony.
Back briefly to the older athlete convo, my sort of svelte summer form has vanished very quickly. I don’t remember it going away so fast in past autumns. I think it is true that as we age we really cannot take the foot off the gas or eye off the ball for very long at all. The gains are hard won and fickle. The body seems to want to just be allowed to comfortably and slowly begin to fade.
Rage, rage I say. Gotta go down swinging.
Happy Holidays to all.
Same, same. When I get to McNultyville full-time we can both work it off. #2025goals
Indeed. I need some focus.
How about this? The boards are thankfully more forgiving.
That’s gonna leave a mark.
More forgiving, but I always feared getting impaled by one of those really long splinters - won’t post any pictures. Fortunately, never went down in track in hundreds of mass starts. I can say that out loud now that my track career is pretty much over after having moved too far away from the nearest track.
Cue Awang with a literal splinter through his calf. I think he still finished on the podium during that race?
I’m watching a recording of Alpine Skiing and Steve Porino just used the phrase ‘spot of bother’ to describe a crash. I think he’s been hanging around Phil for too long.
I’ve used Ant McCrossan’s “not impressed” (= “fucking pissed”) from time to time
