When you take sponsorship money from a brand, you kind of give up the option to use something faster. That's a choice - with the 4%/next% probably not a good one. Professional athletes are riding slower bikes because of sponsorship - should the fastest bike be banned too? What about wetsuits?
Pro athletes need to make decisions and live with the consequences. In IM, sounds like Cam Wurf is the only one getting free shoes from Nike. All others...purchasing the fastest available shoe as a business decision I would assume.
