Ironman/70.3 Super Sunday!
This Sunday is stacked with triathlon. IM has 7 events today alone including 4 pro races (two at each distance). And challenge is warming up to Roth next week with a love streamed 70.3 with amongst others Sam long today as well! Place your bets and enjoy!

Loads of stuff to follow on the tracker!

Seems like Ironman France got problems with the tracker already out of T1, load of athletes disappeared including RVB and Skipper

Field for the European championships at Elsinore seems weak on the mens side, not a comment on the athletes, just in terms of big names

With 3 viable races in Europe for long course athletes it's not entirely surprising we've got slightly watered down fields in each. And I say that as someone who waters down fields myself!

Tom is on Joe’s gravel bike (with a load of bark o taped to the bar) so looks like Joe has dropped back to pace him. They did talk about it on the podcast.

Frankfurt: Bartlett is catching Bleymehl slowly: about 10 secs a km. At 7.7km she's 324 seconds down with 34km to go.

Amazing how quickly pros and I guess some AGers can change a flat. I’m 7-9 min easy lol.
And yes it looks like he is on a mission. Just clawing back the minutes.

On the woman’s side it looks like Tamara is gonna take it. If she can hold steady on the bike, there’s no one in the field that can put run her.

3 minutes into a flat I’ve just about got the tire off my wheel.

Lionel is using a new bike per video - he mentioned UCI compliant so this is the regular TT bike for Canyon like MVDP rides?

For sure (seeing splits at 66km). She is riding well (compared to the weakish competition) and heading for a sub-4:12 total time and likely increasing her chance of the third/fourth AQ slot for the Collins Cup (unsure if Jeanni Metz is injured).

He is def a good runner. He was 15th @ Oceanside. I'm am extremely impressed with his bike here, since he rode a 2:17 in Oceanside and here he rode only 1 minute slower than Beals.

Edit: This is his first year as a pro, I believe he did 3:58 last year in Acapulco in the 18-24 category, but I'm not sure because it says he raced as an MPRO but there is not pro field in the race.

No, it's just that the bike course is 5 miles (or 8 km) short: https://www.strava.com/activities/7371898936

I guess that the NP of 340 watts speaks for itself, the guy can ride and that's the end of it.

Hard to tell exactly what wheel from the photos/videos on instagram but it was a very shallow front wheel. Definitely wasn't an HED or a big mfg. And it probably had a shitty tire on it too (crr wise).

Not that I know of, in terms of ranking by how many wins an athlete got.

The PTO shows you an athlete's results, but the oldest ones are from 2014: https://stats.protriathletes.org/athlete/lionel-sanders

Obstri has Lionel's results as early as 2010. I stopped counting 70.3 wins at 20 in 2018 (starting from 2010) because I got bored. The last 12 months are behind a paywall.

So, she was there, but her bike didn't make it? That sounds crazy that she wasn't able to find a bike to race on. She could have probably won on a darn road bike.

There'd be a fair few road bikes 90 minutes down the road in Montreal, not needed after the Women's eliminator on Saturday afternoon. She might know some of the athletes involved.

He got some shimano wheel with a slow Rubino tire on it. It took 3:15 to change out. They did not have a disc to fit so all that had to do was swap disc off his flat and put on the spare wheel. They did not have the tools at start that’s why it took so long. Lionel was calm and collected just laughing about it.

I will say Probably biggest draft train I have ever seen at an event today outside of Texas. No officials on course giving out penalties. Jackson and chase were the only people I saw pulling all day.

Everyone in the pack sat at about 10m behind them all day. Lionel caught them looked at them and just shook his head had a few words for the camera then dropped them.

Hats off to Jackson and chase doing 90% of the work.

There would need to be some kind of validation mechanism included with such wild cards. It is not sensible to encourage them to just turn up and race the championships. Sensibly Duffy chose not to take up the wild card offer.
The current Olympic Champions have both had epic fails on their first* efforts to race longer than standard distance, since their fantastic wins in Tokyo.
Blummenfelt couldn't manage a bike that would support him for 90km at St George last September and Duffy gets to her first race late in the week, the airline system fails her and she/her team fails to solve the 'no bike' challenge (best of luck to her in the races she chooses to compete in for the rest of the year - I would like to see her race for the 'Internationals' team at the Collins Cup, and to be matched against Ryf or Philipp).

This is getting a bit crazy....the cake is not that big
We had Challengue 70.3, IM 70.3s, two IMs, WTS this weekend. IMO, after the lockdown there are too many races for pros...add the PTO opens soon, Collins Cup, etc. For the spectator, this is difficult to follow. I am a fan, but for appealing new people into the sport things should be easier to understand:
WTSs championship. Continental championships
IM 70.3 world and continental championships
Challenge overall championship
Challenge The Championship
IM world and continental championships
Arena Games series
Superleague...

Now, the PTO opens....

If there are so many, it will be difficult to find the best athletes facing each other...I dont know how but IM, Challengue, PTO and ITU should find a common path. ITU and IM agreed already about the long distance worlds and continentals (so ITU is not organizing on their own as before, as far as I know)...

I´d love to see just five 70.3 races in a season with the all top guys in. Some athletes are just competing in Challengue and they barely race IM 70.3.
I´d like to see 3-4 140.6 races, including the world championship, just for the best

It is sad that you just find 6 pro women in a race...I know the purpose is getting profits from the Age groupers but the promotion should start for making this easier....

P.D. I am sorry but I hated the eliminator in Montreal. Give me a standard olympic distance and go with the relay for the supersprint....the transitions are getting more important that the watts :(

Spaniard. Sorry for my english for the sensitive ones :P
