Zwift/ Garmin 945 mismatch

Good Morning.

Every time I ride Zwift, the mileage between Zwift and my Garmin945 is significantly different. Rode 25 on Zwift yesterday, Garmin said it was 21. Rode 60 on Saturday, Garmin said 50. I’m using a 1st generation Kickr. I’ve reviewed all my settings, but am too stupid to figure it out on my own. Little help?

Thanks,

Rick

if the garmin is gathering speed/distance from the kickr, then it will always be different from zwift. zwift is taking your power from the kickr, and factoring in weight, virtual gradient, drafting, bike choice etc etc to decide your virtual speed…different than whatever speed value your kickr is giving to your watch. up to you how you want to log your “total” mileage…

Thanks!

The 945 is getting the speed measurement from the Kickr, which is basically the flywheel rotation and is directly affected by what gear you are in. Zwift calculates your speed based on the power measurement sent by the kickr and the given terrain within the game. E.g., if you are climbing Alp du Zwift at 200W you might be going 6mi/hr, but if you are in the big ring on you bike, the kickr speed will be reading 18 mi/hr. I prefer to take the Zwift number as it is closer to real world, but this is a great example of why power is much more relevant than speed for training metrics.

EDIT: jflan beat me to it…
